HelpHalf Awake Name Thought
This morning, I woke up way too early. I was still really tired feeling, but I couldn't fall back asleep. In my drowsiness, I began thinking about names. I don't remember precisely what I was thinking, but I do know that, when I realized I needed the restroom and came awake fully, I had one clear thought in my head: Alabama Lucy Josephine.
I think it's actually got pretty good sound and rhythm, but I don't really think Alabama makes that good of a name. I think it's the "bama" part. For me, the name conjures the image of the main character in a novel about a poor Southern girl trying to find love and happiness...or something to that effect.

Can't say that I disagree with you about Alabama as a name but I'm sure I've seen it used in census records, along with several other state names. As a combo, Alabama Lucy Josephine has great flow and lots of pluck; I like it. Now you'll have to dream up her story and, once published, sell her movie rights. It worked for the "Twilight" author.
Thinking "Bo" might be a cute nickname, combining sounds from Alabama and Josephine.

I like it, theoretically. My friend and I, both Brits, were actually discussing Alabama some time ago, how we both thought it had such an interesting sound, and she finds it very evocative of summer. We then went on to list a number of other US place names we felt would make good names in theory -- Indiana, Arizona, Louisiana -- before moving on to something else.
Additionally, Alabama has a few pop culture connotations I'm rather fond of; Mr White's old partner in Reservoir Dogs, Alabama Song by The Doors / Bertolt Brecht, and the song Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. I guess they're comparatively niche references, though, but still something I thought I'd mention, as they make me even fonder of the name.
As a combo, Alabama Lucy Josephine is daring and darling all at once, I think. If Alabama didn't feel like she pulled off her name, she called always opt for Allie, Abby, Amy, or one of her middle names (I'd go for Josephine, personally).

I actually really like it! Though of course I know next to nothing about Alabama and the word/name itself is pure romanticized stereotype for me, I kind of enjoy that about it. The combo does have a nice rhythm to it, and I could totally see said character's grandpa or dad always calling her "Alabama Josy Lucifeen" in an affectionate, dad-joke kind of way that makes you roll your eyes but also smile and get all teary about after he's dead.
The other day at a cafeteria I thought the cashier woman was named Alabama (which would be VERY unusual for Canada) but it turns out I just can't read real good and her name tag said Alanna, and I was sad.

Alabama Josy Luicifeen is so perfect. New_Chloe definitely has the right idea and feel for the kind of novel I imagined. I have no intent to write it though, so New_Chloe, I hereby grant you the rights to Alabama Lucy Josephine for FREE (Unless you make millions off of it, in which case, I demand a cut.) ;)
Also, Howie is a she. ;) It's short for another internet handle I use that begins with the word "how." I'm not fond of my real name, and it doesn't really resonate with me, so I decided to use Howie on the board. I know, it's confusing.

No worries. :) I'm not active in the Lounge, and though I check this site multiple times a day, I don't actually post all that much, so I don't expect everyone to remember/know I'm female. It's happened before, and it will probably happen again.

I think it'd be a cute GP. Alabama isn't really name material though.
