Jill in the Middle
What do you think of Jill as a middle name? Suggestions?I'm thinking it's rather sweet and possibly a nice alternative to Lily which I adore.Thanks!http://www.babynames.com/namelist/9852886

Ooh. I like quite a few of the combos you've suggested.Fiona Jill is short and sweet. I like that.Hermione Jill is different. I'm not sure whether it's great or just okay. I like the contrast between the two. Jill is a plain Jane sort of name and Hermione just wan'ts to sparkle.Ione Jill is right up my alley. It's short and unusual but not terribly uncommon. Really lovely.Lavender Jill is something I could see myself using, probably as middle names. Lavender isn't a name I'm usually drawn to but I really like the feel of these two together.Naomi Jill is nice. I don't usually like Naomi but it's sweet here.Ottilie Jill seems usable. I used to absolutely adore the name Ottilie and this may help her work her way back onto my list.Scholastica Jill is awesome! I have such a soft spot for Scholastica. I'd never use it myself but oh, how I love it.Tabitha Jill is one I could totally see myself using. My best friend growing up was Tabitha so it has a nice cozy feeling for me. Ursula Jill is adorable. I became pregnant when a previous partner and I were together. We decided if our first was a girl her name would be Ursula so I do adore the name but that ship has sailed. Still so cute though!Winifred Jill is absolutely being saved for use or archiving. I don't know. I just love it.

Glad you found some you liked. Most of the ones you picked out are my favorites too. I share your fondness for Scholastica and while I wouldn't use it either (just because there are other names I love more), I can't help throwing it out in suggestions, and I think Jill is a perfect fit. I had fun with Jill and it's not a name I'd have thought to play with, so thanks. :)P.S. On nicknames for Scholastica...do you have any favorites? I've thought of "Scotty" / "Scotti", "Cat" / "Kitty", "Lass", Coco but some of these are rather a stretch.

When a baby was on the way for friends of mine, the father-to-be suggested Scholastica because of its positive meaning. How far in his cheek his tongue was, I don't know. But the balloon was popped when it was pointed out that the obvious short form would be Skollie, which is South African slang for a young, criminal, urban gangster.Pity!By the way, they had a son and named him Benedict.

I haven't really thought about nicknames for Scholastica. If I were going to use it my child would probably be saddled with he whole name all the time. lolHm. Brainstorming...Maybe "Sally". That would be fun and I can see how it would work. I think "Cissy" / "Sissy" would work though they're rather infantile. Oh! "Lissy", like for Felicity, could be cute.

I am actually not a fan. Jill has always felt nickname-y to me and while I think it can pass muster as a first name using it as a middle name is almost like using Mike to me. Just awkward. I do think it has a nice feel and is a good alternative to Lily and in spite of my opinion I also believe middle names are ultimately anything goes territory.

Jill is nicknamey to me as well that's why I prefer it in the middle. Thanks for the input, it's always great to have opinions even if they don't align with my own thoughts. :)

I like Jill in all positions, actually. As a mn I'd like something longish to balance it - Susannah, perhaps, or Bryony. Tessa Jill? I found a Barbara Jill in a list; 1940s-50s. Not sure about Barbara now.Once I knew a Juliana who went by Jill.

Cute suggestions. Barbara leaves a bad taste in my mouth thanks to an association. Basia, the Polish diminutive of Barbara, is a whole 'nother story though!Susannah, Bryony and Tessa are nice suggestions.Juliana nn Jill is interesting. Thanks!

It's my sister's middle name. She is Pamela Jill. I've always liked it as a middle name with a long first name, though I don't like it as a first name. It goes well with long first names, without being too fillerish.

Pamela Jill is sweet. I have a soft spot for Pamela and Pamelia. I also dislike Jill as a first name, it seems to lack substance. Thanks!

I think Jill is pretty cute and it would go great with a long dramatic name. Evangeline Jill is what first came to my mind.
