MIE-ə
I'm slowly falling in love with the sound of MIE-ə...
However, I have the massive problem that I don't know how to write it down! So, you overhear a conversation and somebody says; "I've got a little girl called MIE-ə." How would you expect to see it written? [If you feel comfortable please let me know where you're from.]I'm in England, does that alter your opinion at all?Thank you all so much in advance. This is a problem I've had swirling round my head for weeks! :-)Hakuna Matata ~

I see Maya more often, but I also really like the more Greek-ish spelling Maia (like Gaia), which might be on the rise. Maja's okay, but I wouldn't associate that with England and people could have confusion with the spelling/pron. I think the biggest thing is to not spell it too close to Mia (e.g. Miah, Miya would prob. be confused w/ Mia)

Thank you everyone!Looks like Maia has won with Maya coming in extremely close.
I agree with a lot of people who say Maia looks more attractive; personally I feel that Maya is more modern and possibly the easy option.Maia's going on my list now! :-)

I see that name/sound as Maya. After that, I think of Maia and Maja and Mya, but Maya is what I would instinctively write down. I'm from Australia. It's a great name!!

Maia is what I would assume, although I know Maya and Mya are also used for this pronunciation.

I see it written down Maya.

I'd expect Maya (I live in the US). Maia wouldn't be too much of a surprise, but any other spelling would be.

Maia is the spelling I think of first. I love it.

MaiaThe only one I've ever known, a girl I went to college with, spelled it that way. It's the spelling I like best, although I suppose I might think a little girl these days would be more likely to have it spelled Maya.

Personally when I hear it I think Maia, although Maya comes in as a close second place. If I think about it I remember Maja but as an English speaker it wouldn't be my go-to spelling. I have met a Maiya but it's not my first pick... or my second, or third. :-P It's one superfluous letter too many.I'd go with Maia. It's easy and I think it looks nice.

I would think Maya first, but Mya or Maia could also work.I'm in the southeastern US.

Maya. That's the way I'd expect it to be spelled, yeah. Mya looks incomplete and I say Mia as MEE-uh. I do like Maya; very pretty.I'm from the Midwestern United States.

MaiaIt is the spelling I visualize when I hear the name. I think it's quite a bit prettier than the alternatives anyway. I'm from the US.

Does MIE = MY in pronunciation?
Then I would guess Maya first. Maia second.
I'm in Canada.
