Maria [edited]
What do you think of the name Maria? Is it beyond boring or a classic that deserves use? I could see myself using it for an actual child. But I wonder, would she be lost in the crowd?I've sorted the combo list I had before, removing less desirable names and adding names that were suggested. Some names are more adventurous than others but I like that and think Maria can pull it off.So, what are your favorite combos from the list below? Which would you actually like to see used? Thanks!Maria Andromeda

I don't like it, but not because I think it's boring. Well, it is a little boring, but not as boring as Mary. I don't like it because I think of a middle-aged overweight very dark unattractive woman when I hear it. Same as Isabella.

That's quite the image but we all have names like that. Thanks!

Maria is beautiful, classic, and honestly could fit a demure, delicate type or a spunky, sassy type, an outdoorsy type... honestly, it is an every woman sort of name the way Sarah, Elizabeth, and a few other classics are. Also, there is the song "Maria" from West Side Story, so can you really beat that?Maria is one of my favorite truly classic names. My favorite of your combs are:Maria Xanthe - Xanthe gives it a little something different.
Maria Lavender - I just love Lavender as a middle name, it fits so well here.
Maria Isobel
Maria Hazel
Maria Blythe
Maria Beatrix

You have a point. With Maria being a classic name nearly any sort of woman could pull it off.I do know the song from West Side Story and it's sweet. Thanks!

I think it's a beautiful, classic name that definitely should be used more! If I had to name a daughter either Maria or Marie, I'd choose Maria and never regret it. Out of those two names, Marie is the one that's boring! My personal favorite combination is Maria Violet; I truly think it's such a beautiful combination! But if I had to choose from your list, I like either Maria Winter or Maria Juniper.

Maria is more interesting of the two. It has more personality.Maria Violet is very pretty. I can't believe I didn't think of it. It's a bit embarrassing, really.Thanks!P.S.: I am probably stealing Maria Violet to go on my list. I hope you don't mind! lol

Maria is beautiful and classical. Since historically Maria has been used bountifully, it seems that in English speaking countries it is not being used as much, so I don't believe a Maria would get lost in the crowd. I know a lot more ladies named Jessica, Jennifer, Ashley and Sara than I do Maria. The only Maria that I know is partially Japanese, so her name is pronounced MAH-ree-ah. Maria Estelle and Maria Isobel are my favorites from your list. Usually, Tamsin, Blythe and Winter aren't my style but Maria Tamsin, Maria Blythe and Maria Winter work surprisingly well. Kudos for creating and pulling off such unlikely pairings.

That's a very good point, maybe I am focusing more on historical usage rather than current usage. Maria would stand out amongst the trendy names and would be comfortable with the classics. Maybe she's really as timeless as I think she is. :)And thank you, I like to pair classics or more common names with less likely middles. I thought Tamsin, Blythe, and Winter worked well with Maria. It livens her up a bit.

I really like Maria. It's a classic and deserves all the usage it gets. I definitely don't think Maria would get lost in a crowd in an English speaking country, - but it's still familiar and easy to spell ad pronounce. I like:Maria Beatrice
Maria Daisy (love this)
Maria Isobel
Maria Sophie
Maria Sunny (cuuuute)
Maria Winifred

I prefer Mary, but Maria is fine and I do consider it classic. There is a large Hispanic population where I live, so I do think a Maria might be "lost in the crowd" here, but outside a of "hot spot", I think it would be a refreshing choice.Of your list, these are the ten I think sound/feel best (left in the order you presented them). For me, the "ee" sound in Maria is very prominent, and I prefer not repeating that sound in the middle name; also prefer not repeating the "uh" ending, so my picks may not necessarily be what best suit your ear...Maria Esme
Maria Frances
Maria Joy
Maria Lark
Maria Lavender
Maria Lilac
Maria Pearl
Maria Plum
Maria Winifred
Maria WinterOther ideas...Maria Belen
Maria Betrys
Maria Catrin
Maria Celeste
Maria Clarice - I pronounce to rhyme with "Paris"
Maria Colette
Maria Constance
Maria Dove
Maria Elspeth
Maria Fernande

I like Mary as well, but for me Maria just feels more cosmopolitan. And you're right that outside of "hot spots" Maria would probably be a refreshing choice. It was just alphabetical order you didn't have to keep it! You're definitely right about repeating sounds, it would be best to avoid them as it takes away from the names.Your suggestions do not make my life easier. lolI like...
Maria Betrys - I will always associate it with Tetris but I like it's shape. It's like a trendy looking Beatrice.
Maria Clarice - I pronounce it with the -ees sound. It's still nice.
Maria Dove - Cute!
Maria Gwen - I'm not a huge fan of Gwen names but I do like this.
Maria Nelle - Nella honors for me so this is nice.
Maria Noor - I love this.
Maria Sonnet - But it sounds like "Maria's on it". lol
Maria Tamsin - I am always looking for places to put Tamsin. There is just something I like about it.
Maria Tess - Love it. I usually have Tess in my Elinor Sophia Tess combo.
Maria Tuesday - I have this as a combo already but thought because it's a bit more uncommon no one would like it. It's nice to see it suggested.Thank you. I do appreciate your response.

I have never been a huge fan of Lavender as a name either but I think it just works with Maria. I like your suggestions of Maria Daphne, Maria Verity, Maria Andromeda, Maria Veronica, and Maria Josephine.Maria Josephine stands out for me. I love Josephine, it would honor my father, Joseph. However, Maria / Mary and Josephine / Joseph would bother me in a combo. Thanks so much!

Use it! No one uses it anymore and makes me think of Italian and Portuguese mothers and grandmothers. It would be nice to see on a child.

It's on my list of names I would actually use for sure. I also have that older woman vision but I'm not worried about it. I think a lot of old lady names from any culture are adorable on children.

I love the name Maria and it's also a really awesome song by Green Day (my favourite band) so it's an awesome name. I don't think someone with the name Maria will get lost in the crowd I only know one person who's name contains Maria and it's my cousins middle name. It's a classic I wish was used more.Maria Eloise
Maria Estelle
Maria Felicity
Maria Harriet
Maria Hermione
Maria Iris
Maria Joy
Maria Lily
Maria Saskia

I've never head of the song but I'll have to give it a listen. I definitely think Maria should be used more as a first name. It's always nice to hear a classic! Thanks!

Maria sounds and looks okay. It's not common here, but I think it's a bit... boring. I don't know many Maria's my own age, but I know a few Marias in their 40s/50s, I know of a lot of fictional/historic/pop-culture Marias and I know a lot of people who know a lot of Marias in their home country/community. Point in fact, I have a very good Portuguese friend who has two half-sisters (same father, different mother) named Maria Francisca (goes by Francisca), Maria Rafaela (goes by Rafaela), a step-mother named Maria (not the mother of either Maria), and nieces called Liliana Maria, Inês and Maria Rosalía (Rosa). That's just some of them - Inês had a common name, but she stood out as one of the few in three generations who didn't have Maria in her name - she told me herself.
I thought he was kidding when he said that about 90% of the local female population has Maria somewhere in their name - until I visited him in his hometown. It seemed like you could shout 'Maria' in a crowded place and get killed in the stampede. That kind of underlines how I feel about Maria. It's a nice name, it works in many different cultures, but it's somehow fundamentally unremarkable and it has been overused for a very long time. It might need a very, very long break before it seems anything apart from just-a-bit-dull-for-some-reason.That said, I like:
Maria Hermione
Maria Ottilie

With it's prevalence of use I can see how Maria would be boring. I don't actually know a single Maria in my area. Only a few women with it as a middle name. That's quite a few Marias in the family and town you mentioned. I know there are a few places like that after spending time in Mexico and a few southern towns but it's always interesting to hear other's experience with them.Part of the appeal of Maria for me is that it works so well in many different cultures. I'm a bit worried that it's a bit boring because of that. I'm sure everyone has heard it or knows someone with the name. There isn't much that's new or exciting about it. Thanks!

Maria Coralie is gorgeous. Maria Eloise, Maria Esme, Maria Felicity, Maria Frances, Maria Harriet, Maria Iris, Maria Joy and Maria Sophie are also good, and I'd like Maria Beatrice rather than Beatrix. My mother-in-law, not from an English-speaking family, was Bertha Maria. Her mother was Gertruida Susannah Maria. I think it's got so much beauty and dignity that it deserves much more use than it gets - not counting Catholic families, who would have other reasons for picking it. So, no, definitely not lost in the crowd - go for it!

Maria Beatrice is usually more appealing to me than Maria Beatrix as well. I'm not sure why I didn't include it. I left quite a few names off. I have three files dedicated solely to Maria combos. lolNot being Catholic myself I always wondered if I were to ever use Maria whether people would assume I was. Thanks!

Maria is classic and pretty. I can't imagine how it would get lost in a crowd as it's hardly used where I live (Canada). I don't personally find it very interesting, but there's nothing wrong with it.Maria Audrey - no flow
Maria Aveline - like Ave Maria
Maria Beatrice - "ree-ah-bee-ah" in the middle
Maria Beatrix - see above
Maria Beatrix Lily - see above
Maria Blithe / Blythe - hate Blythe
Maria Calliope - meh
Maria Catherine - two classics together is not that interesting
Maria Cleo
Maria Cora
Maria Cora - sounds like a type of coral
Maria Coralie - 1
Maria Cordelia - too rhymey
Maria Daffodil
Maria Daisy
Maria Eda
Maria Elizabeth - two classics again
Maria Elly / Elli
Maria Eloise - 2
Maria Elsa
Maria Emilia
Maria Emma

Maria isn't used very often where I live either but I know in many places it is. Here it's usually tucked in the middle. I love your honesty. If something is awful, boring, or lacks in flow I want to hear it. You pointed out a few things that I don't notice with my accent. Thanks!

It's a classic that isn't boring. It has a slight aura of Latin matron, but I don't think that makes it less appealing. It wouldn't be lost in a crowd where I live. Nobody uses it.Maria Magnolia is spunky.
