My cousin's first child
My cousin has become a father! It's a boy and his name will be Nils Bertil. Can't say I like it, sadly enough. Bertil sounds like a 100 year old man to me. My cousin actually wanted to name him Lennart, after our grandfather, but his girlfriend said "no way". Lennart is a typical "grandpa name" today and I don't exactly think it's beautiful (I would say it's like naming a child in an English-speaking country something like Howard or Ralph), but it would be so nice with a Lennart Junior and I'm sure our grandpa would have liked that.

I like Howard and Ralph, I think they have a dated charm... but that is not everyone's cup of tea. Lennart is pretty cool to me, but it has no connotations in my head since I have never heard of it. I would just have assumed it was a retro chic name.
In any case... I love the name Nils Bertil. I mean... Bertil is just so bold and quirky, yet solid and lively. I like it even better than Nils. I am not totally sure how your cousin says the name though. Behr-teel? Bertle?.... I lean towards the first pronunciations.
Nils is hard for me to say aloud, I can't quite catch the pronunciation well... but I like the look of it and find its short and sweetness charming.
So, while I agree that Nils Bertil is an out-of-the-box name... I totally appreciate it for that. Kudos to your cousin for being bold.
