A great improvement. Having a recognisable name really helps in later life.
If it were me, I'd use a complete form of Sue - Susannah, Suzanne or Susan itself. Otherwise it comes across as rather 1940s-50s, like Peggy Sue! But if granny was a Sue, then why not?
