Jared sounds handsome, strong and suitable for a trailblazing leader. I'm surprised how many people on here seem to have met a Jared. The name isn't overly popular, and I don't recall meeting more than one during my life. The people with the name Jared that come to mind are the Biblical reference, diamonds, and Jared Grace from the children's Spiderwick books.

I have a battle with this name. I love the sound of it but I like Biblical names to be spelled Biblically and actually prefer the spelling Jarrod by quite a bit. So I'm torn between spelling it the Biblical way (Jared) and the way I actually prefer, Jarrod. But I really do like it, lately I've been using it as a mn for Micah =)

I knew about twenty in high school, or at least it felt that way, so I'm pretty over it (as I'm over a lot of names from my peer group). It gets lumped in with names like Chad and Derek in my mind as the kind of meathead-y, high school jock types who went on to study either sports medicine or business.

Oh I despise this name. I think of Jared's diamonds, which brings to mind strip malls and blood diamonds simultaneously. I also think it sounds straight up bizarre - maybe cause I've only known bizarre Jareds.

I never liked it, for sure. It looks ugly, sounds worse, and holds no appeal whatsoever. My MIL's sister has a son named Jared who is just about the laziest and dumbest person who can still feed himself. His name fits him perfectly.

What a coincidence! This name has been on my mind a lot lately. It's really been growing on me, and right now I don't think I'd hesitate to name a baby boy Jared. I think it's a strong name that's "cool" without being too "try-hard." It makes me think of a conflicted person who ultimately chooses to do the right thing.
As for imagery, it's heavy on black and gold, and I see lions when I think of this name.

Jared is annoyingly 80s and fake-tan, fake-smile to me. Blech.

I don't dislike it as much as I did, but it always reminds me of the past tense of a "to jare" verb.

Jared is one of the most manly sounding names ever. I like it for that reason. It's not a favorite at all, though. It just looks too Bibley for my taste. It feels a little bit like Jacob and Caleb.
It's dated, too, but as a baby name. Seems youngadulty. A name I think of as being popular in the "invisible generation" - that is, the one that is least visible from my personal perspective, the people born too late to be in my peer groups but too early for me to have paid much attention to their names as popular baby-names, who are still too young to have become famous for much of anything that's picked up by my radar. Joshua, Brittany, Caitlin, Kyle, Shelby, Alexis, Cody, Jordan, Lauren, Samantha, Chelsea, Kelsey, Taylor, Jenna, Kayla are others.
