Best firstnames/surnames in fiction?
What are the boards favourite first names and surnames invented by authors/writers?
My favorites are the ones set in an "meant to be our world" with real first names paired with surnames that don't exist in the real world and it's obvious that they want to spare a real life person from mockery and abuse.

Okay, you're absolutely right on Mycroft.
Ooh, Mycroft. Good one.
My favorites are mostly used in Tolkien and CS Lewis's works. Mostly because I know those are made up, and am not sure what names were invented from other works I enjoy.
Current faves are:
Aravis
Rilian
Emeth
Shasta
Rudigar
Farin
Miriel
Hwin
Amandil
Isilme
Nessanie

Hmm. Names created by authors. The first ones to pop to mind that I love: Christabel and Imogen. As for surnames I haven't got a clue, sorry. Do you have some examples of ones you love? Thanks.
Great list. They should be in the database. :0)
Wow, my medicine must have really kicked in by the time I posted my response last night.
I didn't even put Èponine and that's my own dog's name.

Off the top of my head:
Lestat
Caspian (arguable, I guess)
Cora
Fiona

Now that I'm more awake...
...and my brain is better functioning, let's add to my list:
Someone mentioned Mycroft and Éponine.
My phone is named iCroft (yes, I name my technology) and my dog is named Éponine. I was just too asleep for those last time, I guess.
A few others I like/love*:
Lorna
Nessarose (Does that count?)
Meronym
Estel
Kalimac
Meriadoc
Dorian
Fiyero
Tyrion
Taneleer
Nemo (was this invented or just most popular from a book?)
Basha (This is just from a friend's story and this was used as a pet form of Sebastian and I am in love even though I can't seem to find if this is culturally appropriate anywhere.)
