Thoughts on Rose
Hi all. I am expecting a baby in October. I don't know the gender yet. I am considering the name Rose and am interested in hearing other people's opinions on this name. I was planning on using the name Claire, but my sister-in-law gave birth to a girl a few weeks ago and named her Clare. Any suggestions for names similar in style to Claire? Thanks in advance!

I prefer Rose as a middle name. Perhaps you could find a different first name to complement Rose.

I think Rose is absolutely lovely and underused as a first name. I would use it myself. It's a timeless name that will age well with her.

I love the name Rose. I think it has a very feminine sound without being too frilly or overly sweet. I think it's very fresh as a first name after so long in the "filler" middle name crowd. I like it much better than Claire, which I generally find too sweet for my tastes.Stylistically, I think Rose is in a romantic, luxuriant, and fairly secular crowd. Similar:Evelyn
Catherine or its spelling sisters
Vivian
Renata
Antonia
Adele
Marion / Marian
Avis
Maris / Maren
Cecily
Corinne / Corinna
Camille / Camilla
Gloria
Jane
Sylvie / Sylvia
Iris
Anne / Ann / Anna
IsoldeClaire for me is more sweet, girly, innocent. Similar names:Susannah (especially with my favorite nn Sunny)
Caroline
Briony
Johanna
Julia / Julie / Juliet
Lily
Matilda
Alice
Alma
Alba
Emily / Emma / Emmeline
Lucy
Eloise

Rose is a beautiful name, I love it. As a mn it's overused and expected, even though it works with so many names, but as a fn it's different and sweet these days. Combos I like are Rose Amelia, Rose Evelyn, Rose Annabelle, Rose Elizabeth, Rose Matilda, Rose Miriam, Rose Olivia, Rose Audrey, Rose Jemima, Rose Juliet, Rose Katherine, Rose Coraline and Rose Georgiana.

It is so good to hear people saying that they like Rose as a first name even though it is overused as a middle name! Thank you! That was something I was concerned about. I love the your combos, especially Rose Amelia, Rose Evelyn, Rose Annabelle, and Rose Olivia. On an unrelated note, your sons' names are incredible!

Agree. I especially like Skye. I remember you had to insist on her "e" on Skye, a teacher always made it Sky.

My cat's name is Skye, but people always spell it wrong. Sorry. Just random stuff.

Rose is a lovely name for a girl. As a middle name it's rather boring and expected. But put it in the front and suddenly it's romantic and has retrained elegance. Plus, you can have fun with the middle name. But if you're looking for something like Claire, then how about Rose Adele or Rose Evelyn? Good luck! :0)

I like Rose. It's simple sweet and classic. I do like Claire a lot, but find it a little more boring next to Rose's beauty. I think Rose is a good choice. Some other options for Claire would be :

Holly
Jane
Emily
Cora
Lily
Eden
Danielle
Hannah
Grace
Pauline
Juliet
Elise
Valerie
Julia
Ava

etc.
Hope that helps!
