What is the best nickname for Elizabeth and why?
Which nickname do you prefer for Elizabeth? I"m torn between Lily and Elle. Lily has a nice Victorian history, and Elle has a more modern sound to me.

Lily is cute and pretty. Elle is good too, but I think I prefer Lily just because it's a flower and I like naturey names/nicknames.Some others:
Liz/Lizzy/Lizzie: I think this one is kind of boring and not the best, but it's common.
Ella, Ellie, etc: Similar to Elle
Izzy/Izzie: Can be good, but depends on the person.
Eli: I think this one is good for tomboys named Elizabeth since it's a masculine full name. It's also cute in general IMO.
Elsa, Elsie: Pretty/cute. I think these are good nicknames. Softer than Elle.
Eliza, Liza: Good and a little old-fashioned.
Lisa: I don't like this one as much but it's another one that could be a full name.
Libby: Cute but not the best IMO.
Beth: Sounds very friendly but not young. (Not "too old", just not young)
Lizbeth: Not everyone could pull this off, plus it's long for a nickname
Iza: Shorter and cuter

Betsy because it's cute and spunky.

Lily is okay. Not a fan of Elle - too pronoun-y.
My great-grandmother & great-aunt (both Elizabeths) were Lisi & Beti, which I don't mind, & Libby / Libba are okay too.

Oh my - so hard. Elizabeth has so many fantastic nicknames that I can't really decide which I like best. I have a huge soft spot for Betsy. It's just so retro-cute. However, Buffy is incredibly unexpected and spunky. Liza is probably the classiest combined with the most personality in my opinion, but Ellie is always a front runner for being both stylish and one of those cutesy names that happens to age well.
Of your choices, I much prefer Elle. Both Lily and Elle abound these days, but Elle is a little sweeter.

I go by Beth, but I always kind of wished my parents had used the nickname Eliza or Libby. Eliza because it maintains an old fashion flair, but is still edgy enough to be cool. And Libby, well, I just always kind of liked it.

If I were to have a dd named Elizabeth, I'd call her Ellie but only because Bess wouldn't work with my surname. Bess is the best, ha!In your situation, so while I like Ellie, there's something about Elle that puts me off (perhaps because it seems like more of a nn for Eleanor, I don't know). Besides, Lily as a nick for Elizabeth is so sweetly old fashioned that I can't resist it here.

Personally for me it's Eliza.

Lily is a beautiful nn for Elizabeth!! I prefer it enormously because I love the name Lily and personally really dislike Elle/Ella/Belle/Bella.

I've got an Elizabeth friend who became Lilli as a baby because it was the best her slightly elder siblings could do with such a long and complicated name.Elle is silly, like Dee and Kay. And then there's the magazine, so no.If I'd been an Elizabeth, I'd have gone really retro: Bethan or Betsan or Betsy.

I like Elle. It doesn't really feel modern to me- but Lily's nice too. My personal favourites are Elsie and Elise.

I like/love:Elsa- Just cute and sweet. Now that Disney has an association, I guess it depends on how you view that association as to whether this still works for me.Lizzie / Lizzy- Everyone thinks of this as a common nickname, but I've honestly never met one. It's cute and underused.Lise- I just like this one. I think it's the foreign vibe, but still easy to pronounce and simple to spell.Zabet- My friend went by this and I always thought it was super cool sounding and original. She pronounced it zuh-BET.Z- Z Berg is an indie singer and her full name is Elizabeth and I think it's a cool/cute nickname. Lys- Even cuter than Lise and looks awesome. Bess- This is cute, but be careful because Bessie is a cow.

I've never heard Zabet before. How cool! Also, I agree with you about Bess.

I don't think of either as a nickname for Elizabeth. I'm sorry!Lily is great, but I'd be more inclined to just name a daughter Lily alone, rather than a nickname for Elizabeth. Elle is a no-go for me, just sounds like a suffix.

Lily and Elle may be interesting as nicks for Elizabeth, but I don't think they would be interpreted as such. They're kinda names all their own. If I have to choose between them, Lily is nicer.I'm partial to Liz. But it does not suit everyone. If I were Elizabeth, I'd probably go by Ellie.

Lily and Elle are already names on their own so it would be awkward to use them as nicknames. And they are popular. I like traditional nicknames like Beth, Libby and Lizzie.

Personally, it's any nn that isn't common where you live. Elle and Lily are becoming more popular themselves as names, so I'd try Beth, Liza, Lise, Lys, Liesl, anything that won't be confused with another kid in the class.

I prefer no nn, just Elizabeth.

Beth sounds fine, but I'm not a fan of Lisa, Liza or any varient of that nickname. Also, I dislike Liz and Lizzie even more.

I personally like either Elise or Eliza. Elise- because it sounds soft & feminine and isn't as commonly used as some of the other Elizabeth nns.Eliza- because it's fun and spunky and again, isn't as commonly used as some of the other nns.
