Re: American South names
in reply to a message by LMS
Monte, Debhor and Lilyan are all unusual names and are quite different from the majority of names I have encountered or heard from the Southern United States, but some unusual names do undoubtedly crop up there. Lee is of course really popular for boys, and I have even seen it used as a middle name for girls. By in large though, the names in the south seem fairly traditional like Elizabeth, Amelia, Abigail, Caroline, etc. They do use nick names and middle names a little more perhaps than the north. Monte sounds rather masculine like a nick name for Montmorency or Montgomery. Debhor looks like Deborah spelled using a thick accent, and Lilyan is another spelling for Lilian or a combination of Lily Ann.
