Help naming a puppy? (pic)
She's a golden retriever puppy and I can't think of a name for her. I don't want a typical dog name like Lucky or Fido or anything. My other dog is named Zoe, which isn't a name I would choose now. Right now, my list is:
Hattie
Martha
Polly
Sprout Any ideas are appreciated!

Thanks everyone! Thanks everybody! I'm leaning toward Martha but I just can't decide. Maybe Posy. I would do Ruthie but it was my grandmother's middle name and I can just imagine her reaction to be making a dog Ruth! She'd be horrified.Any thoughts on Loveday?

I like Posy the Pooch a lot.But if you fancy Martha, then you might consider also using the old, now obsolete (though it happened in George Washington's family, I think) - Patty! Pat the Dog.Pity about Ruthie. I had a Ruth friend at school who couldn't pronounce R and when she introduced herself it came out pretty close to Woof.Loveday shortens to Daisy, which is fantabulastic!

I agree with mirfak in that I think Loveday would get awkward to call a dog all day. How about Lovey or Lovely instead?I also like Posy.Pansy
Tansy
Bluebell
Pixie
Trixie
Dolly
Dandy / Dandelion
Carla
Billie
Esther
Edith
Nancy
Barbie
Ginger / Ginnie
Terra
Gretel

Loveday is cute but I don't know that it'd be easy to call a dog that every day.Sad about Ruthie not working.Bessie, Betsy?
Dorothy / Dory / Dottie / Dot?
Marjorie / Margie?

She is a beauty! I do like Martha and Polly. In the same vein, I think Margo or Enid would be sweet. I also love pp suggestion of Ruthie. If she were mine, I'd go for something frilly or floral-y, like-Clover
Petunia
Posy
Laurel
Imogen
Opal
Clementine
Juniper
or, I love middle aged lady names on dogs-
Susan
Marilyn
Debbie
Shirley
Linda
Tammy
Darlene
Rhonda
Norma
Diane
Nancy
Wanda
Barbara(I'd probably go the above route, b/c a dog named Nancy is just awesome)Or old lady-
Edna, Doris, Gladys

How about:
Millaray

GoldaThey mean "gold" or "golden" which is apt for a golden retriever.

Well, you want a name that will let her age gracefully. I would imagine. Sprout won't do. Scout might. Sprout is a cute pet-name for a pup.I think Hattie and Martha and Polly will become sort of comic when the dog is geriatric. How about Ruthie? Is that your dog really? Congrats.

So cute!I would say sprout, because I prefer creative names for pets. My cats are Noel and Nila "Nille".

Hattie, Polly, maybe Martha, probably not Sprout.Dog's names should be easy to yell-"Haaattie!"What a darling puppy!

ETAPuppyyyyyyyyLUCILLE! Zoe and Lucille. I do love Martha, she's totally a Martha. Or Marfa. Or Margie. Or Midge. The golden retriever on Mad Men was named Polly!WAIT name her Eileen so you can say "come on Eileen"OR name her Science! so you can yell out "Science!!" when she runs away.

A name I've always liked for a dog and never managed to use is Sally. Retro-classic, like Polly and Hattie, but she'll have a magnificent tail one day, and Sallywag the Scallywag does spring to mind.I once had a suitcase called Fido. It had wheels, and followed me everywhere. We had matching luggage, and DH's was called Rover. One must break stereotypes!

100% Martha.Perfect name for that puppy! THough Hattie would work as well. My cat's name is Harriet "Hattie" which I adore :)

From your list, to go with Zoe:
Zoe and Hattie
Zoe and Polly
Zoe and Sprout (Of yours I like this one best but golden retrievers are big dogs so it might odd when she gets older. By the way, such a cute puppy!)other ideas to go with Zoe:
Linda
Lily
Eloisa
Pepper
Tulip
Rose
Katie
Janet
