Thanks everybody! I'm leaning toward Martha but I just can't decide. Maybe Posy. I would do Ruthie but it was my grandmother's middle name and I can just imagine her reaction to be making a dog Ruth! She'd be horrified.

Any thoughts on Loveday?

I like Posy the Pooch a lot.

But if you fancy Martha, then you might consider also using the old, now obsolete (though it happened in George Washington's family, I think) - Patty! Pat the Dog.

Pity about Ruthie. I had a Ruth friend at school who couldn't pronounce R and when she introduced herself it came out pretty close to Woof.

Loveday shortens to Daisy, which is fantabulastic!

I agree with mirfak in that I think Loveday would get awkward to call a dog all day. How about Lovey or Lovely instead?

I also like Posy.

Loveday is cute but I don't know that it'd be easy to call a dog that every day.
