It's finally my turn to decide on a name!
I'm pregnant and it's now my turn to give a name to a little baby! I'm excited but also so nervous. I've been a member of this site since I was around 10 years old, offering opinions to others out there and just enjoying looking through names that I might possibly one day get to use. Now's the time! I've gone through list after list shortening them as I go and taking off names that my husband doesn't agree with and I'm left with still a quite long list. For girls I really like girly girl names that are somewhat old fashioned and "cute". For boys, I like strong masculine names, mostly biblical. For both I prefer that they aren't overly common. I don't want my child being the 3rd or 4th Liam in their class as I grew up having multiple girls with my name and I didn't like it at all. What are your thoughts on my names? Could you actually see a child running around with the name? Is it completely awful? Be honest. Perhaps you can come up with a few combos or offer more suggestions as well. Thanks! Girls:Penelope

Girls:
Penelope- I really like it. It's fun and quirky and spunky. She has lots of nicknames to choose from.
Eleanor (Ella)- Eleanor is lovely as well, very classy and stately. And Ella has really grown on me once I started to view it in a vintage light rather than a trendy one. I used to have a toddler named Eleanor "Ellie" at the day care I worked at, and I felt it worked really well on a modern child.
Gloria (mn only)- Girl, I'd use Gloria right up front! It's criminally underused, and so retro-chic. Plus, Glo is the coolest nickname ever.
Joy (mn only)- I think it would make a really good middle name and would pair easily with a lot of other names.
Noel- I'd like this if it was spelled Noelle. Spelled this way, I think of the male name Noel. Noelle, however, is very underused, fresh, slightly mysterious.
Willa- I like it as well. It's got a vintage feeling and also reminds me of prairies, probably thanks to Willa Cather.
Suri- Not a fan. All I think of is Tom Cruise and I strongly dislike him.
Adelaide- It's okay. I think you may run into pronunciation issues if you're in the US- even as a namenerd, for a long time I thought it was "AID-ah-laid."
Adya- Never heard of this, and not sure I like it.
Britta- It reminds me of britta water filters. Otherwise, it sounds like it's missing something or like it's short for something like Brittany.
Britain- I'm not a place name fan, in general. To me this just sounds like you named her after a country.

Penelope: Geeky, but becoming more popular because of the Kardashian kid. I don't like the idea of the teasing name Pee-pee which I just know is bound to happen. I do like the nicknames Penny and Nell, though.
Eleanor (Ella): LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. Though, personally, I prefer Nell or Nora as a nickname.
Gloria (mn only): Not my style but good enough.
Joy (mn only): Okay, becoming filler.
Noel: Very masculine looking to me. Whats wrong with Noelle?
Willa: Not my style, but cute. I would definitely turn down a Wilhelmina though.
Suri: Too pop culture.
Adelaide: Pretty, but prefer the short and sweet Ada.
Adya: Too difficult for people to figure out. Ad-jah, Ad-jee-uh, Ad-ee-uh, etc.
Britta: Filter
Britain: No
Brooke: Super dated to me.
Cameron: Masculine in my eyes. When used on a girl it looks trendy. I've seen Kamerons and Kamryns and Kameryns, etc.
Camilla: Pretty, but too Parker-Bowles for me to consider seriously.
Claire: Never my style. All the Claire's I have known have been very boring. I prefer Clara.
Colby: Ugh, yuck! On a girl?! No!
Cora: Gorgeous. I can also stand behind Coraline and Coralina which are frillier, which might go along with your girly-girl like. You could also use Corabella, though its not my style.
Daisy: Duck. Also very UK popular.

Congratulations! Hope you have fun choosing a name. Here are my picks:Girls:
Penelope, Eleanor & Adelaide - solid choices with multiple nns
Gloria (mn only) - fun middle name
Cora & Daisy - seem a little cutesy on the page, but work well IRL
Camilla, Ingrid, Juliette & Madalena - pretty, internationally friendly and not very commonRunners-up:
Eva - all the Evas I know are eh-va or ev-ah, so she might find that annoying
Britta - if it's not a water-filter brand where you live, this would be nice
Lyla - I prefer Lila, but maybe you have a Lyle in the family?Boys:
Reuben & Asher - nice old biblical names, but not in-your-face biblical
Emmanuel (mn only) - something handsome about this
Arlo, Reuel & Ilia - a bit different but I like the soundsRunners-up:
Edmund - always seemed a bit heavy to me somehow, but Ed is friendly and nice
Linus - I like the sound and look of this, but I've never seen it IRL, so it's hard to imagine on a child instead of a Peanuts character.

Suri - Tom Cruise.
Adya - I like Ada, but Adya I find unattractive.
Britta - Like the filter. I don't dislike it as a nn, but not as a full name.
Britain - I live here.
Brooke - trendy, nms
Cameron - bleh, too trendy
Camilla - Just don't like *shrug*
Claire - boooooring
Colby - Trendy, nms
Daisy - Too cutesy
Ella - Cutesy and boooring

Macy - bleh
Paige - trendy, nms.
Rory - it's a male name, imo, and too trendy. someone's a GG fan.

Hey, congrats! This must be an exciting time for you :)If you're interested in having a unique name for baby, I'd look at these options:Noel
Willa
Adelaide
Adya
Britta
Britain - although I can't see a person being named this. Maybe Briton or Britannia, they seem much namier.
Holland
Imogen
Ingrid
Ivy
Joby
Madalena
Sabra
Thora
Suri I guess would be unique, like I'm sure she'd be the only Suri in class, but since it's a celeb baby, it don't *actually* seem unique, know what I mean? Same with Shiloh.
Percy
Linus
Adael
Adiel
Azriel
Ezra
Simon
Arlo
Edmund
Ephraim
Ilia
Lucius
Reuben
Reuel I think these make the biggest statements. Some super cool choices in there too. I think the ballsiest picks are Percy, Ephraim, Reuben, Linus, Azriel, Reuel, Joby, Imogen, Britain, Holland, Sabra, and Adya. They stand out. Your boys seem far more substantial in character than the girls, I will say, though the components could make some sweet combos, like:Imogen Daisy, Imogen Penelope, Imogen Eleanor, Imogen Cora

Congratulations, best wishes for your pregnancy.Girls:
I can picture all of them on a real kid.
I like almost all of your girl names at least OK.Penelope - definitely usable and IMO not likely to become a fad. I adore Penny, but I'm not sure I would want a name that sounds the way Penelope does to my ears. It's not quite goofy, but it is definitely not regal - it seems good-humored, I guess.
Eleanor (Ella) - Ok, I'm stifling a yawn. Ella is really common.
Gloria (mn only) - a neat middle name
Joy (mn only) - kind of generic as a mn, but nice.
Noel - I'm not really on board with using it for girls. I wouldn't want to be a female Noel.
Willa - would be unusual. the sounds W and L together are nms.
Suri - Gutsy? since nobody (virtually) had heard of it before Suri Cruise. I like the name, though.
Adelaide - I've never thought it was distinctive. But it's nice.
Adya - is this AHD-ya, AHdeeya, AYDya, AYdeeya, or what? If I were taught the prn I would like this (pretty much any prn)
Britta - has a bratty air but not in an obnoxious way, more spunky. I kinda like it. I prefer plain Britt though.
Britain - it has that glottal stop, when I say it, that always kind of turns me off in names. It's not terrible but it's eccentric as a name.
Brooke - this is a good name, I like it.
Cameron - as a girl name I think it is dated. I don't dislike it, though.
Camilla - a nice classic name that I've never gotten excited for.
Claire - I'm picking up a bright, dominant vibe in your style. I like this too.
