Testing our names...
Hi All,
I won't post again about possible names for a while. I am trying hard not to be overly post-ey when it comes to this. So... mum's the word for a few months at least! In any case, Julius and I have written down and decided our name choices for the Little One. I just want to test them here, and you may have seen them before. Feel free to give honest critique. I am not telling any family (except my sister who already approved them) or anyone else I know. GIRL: Nadine Marikit Irene PayotBOY: Loic Robert Charles Payot OR Loic Makisig Carlberto Payot
I chose the first names
DH chose the primary middles
My father chose the girl second middle
Second middles for boys represent our fathers: Roberto and Charles
Big sister is Clarisse Bituin Gioia Payot ______________________________________________

I think Loic Robert Charles is fine. Nothing I would choose for my own kid, but it's just a matter of taste and I can see the beauty in it.I don't like Nadine Marikit Irene though. I think the flow is a bit off, but my main issue it again just a matter of taste. I've never liked Nadine or Irene. That said, I think both Nadine and Loic are interesting choices, as it's not what I would expect a sibling to Clarisse to be named. I don't think they are in the same style, which is fine by me.

My only real objection is that Nadine and Irene rhyme. Even separated by Marikit it's kind of jokey IMO.Also, Nadine reminds me of nads (slang for gonads). But that might just be me.

I get that. Though, I haven't heard anyone say "nads" since the early 90s, so I didn't even think of that!I also see the rhyme, though most of my family pronounces Nadine as Nuh-DEEN, and Irene as ee-REY-neh. I like the EYE-reen pronunciation too though. Something to consider, thanks.

Can't say I'm the biggest fan of Loic, though it's not bad, but I love Nadine and think it goes really well with Clarisse!

Thanks.

I'm so, so happy you went with Nadine. It will go great with Clarisse. :)I wasn't familiar with Loic before you posted it. It makes more sense to me spelled with an umlaut, but it is really growing on me.

I also prefer the umlaut, but I predict issues in the States on electronic forms and such.

Aaahh, Nadine and Clarisse are swoon worthy. I never heard of Loic before, how do you pronounce it?Nadine Marikit Irene is a real winner. I'm not usually crazy about Irene, but it sounds nice here.Loic Robert Charles is handsome, but I don't it fits the theme you have with Clarisse and Nadine. Loic Makisig fits much better but Carlberto is not very pleasant to look at. But I understand wanting to honor and I much prefer Loic Makisig Carlberto over Robert Charles. You have great taste :)

Loic can be pronounced low-ICK, lew-ick or lo-eck. My husband tends to say lew-eek in his accent, but I go with the low-ICK pronunciation myself. Like Lois, but with a k-sound. Thanks for the response.

Nadine Marikit Irene is lovely! I don't really like Irene but it's alright. Nadine is great and Marikit is adorable! Nadine + Clarisse is an amazing sibset, and the middles are great, too. I love Gioia, by the way, is that what your username comes from?Loic is a favourite of mine. I do prefer it to Gerard, I think. Robert Charles is okay, but I would not pass down a chance to use Makisig, it's glorious. Carlberto is pretty zany, but okay if honouring. I'd use the second. What brilliant names. Congratulations. :)

Yes, Joiya is a transcription of Gioia that I started using for stories as a kid. It just stuck with me. Carlberto IS zany. I question it, but it's a traditional thing to smash names in the Philippines. Not my style, but it is kinda fun.

A lot of name-smashing takes place in South Africa as well! I know two Jeandre people, one male and one female. A friend's niece is Runine (parents Rudolf and Jeanine), and I also know a female Christony (or maybe Christhony. Not sure.) after parents Christine and Anthony. Carlberto looks pretty normal to me therefore, though it wouldn't happen in my circles (she says snobbishly), and it's a good way of keeping your naming pattern intact while including both grandfathers. Really, I'd say, Go for it!

Thanks. My SIL is named Rochie (combo of her parents Roberto and Conchita) and one of my BILs is named Cristofel (combo of grandparents Cristiano, Ernesto and Felippa). My husband is forever disappointed to have a "normal" name because his parents ran out of combos by the 8th kid!Runine is actually kinda cool.
