Main character in Venus in Furs, ie the original masochist. I doubt many people would know that if you named a kid Severin but if you wanted a book character called that people would probably try to make connections.

I like Severin. It reminds me of ski jumper Severin Freund who is one of my favourite athletes.

I automatically think of Venus in Furs by Masoch, but that's a fairly niche thing. Otherwise I don't have much opinion on it other than it sounds old.

I immediately thought of Severus Snape. That can be a negative or a positive association (sometimes to extremes) for different people, given the nature of his character in the wildly popular Harry Potter books and associated films.I realize it is not in fact the same name, but it is similar enough in sound/look as well as being derived from it.

I actually find that I really like this name, but I would never use it because it sounds too much like 'sever(ing)', and maybe also Severus Snape.

I pretty much agree with you, except I like Severus Snape as an association. :) I'd probably not use it though.

I don't like it. It's very old-fashioned and almost frilly.

I don't like it. I don't think it sounds like a name actually. But I obviously know that it is.

It's not attractive. It sounds an awful lot like severing.
