A couple of questions about Vincent
I know I've previously posted about Vincent, though I think it was limited to potential sister names, but I popped into the National Gallery yesterday to see some of van Gogh's artwork and it had me thinking not only about his art, but about his name. So, I have a few questions. What would you nickname Vincent, aside from Vin / Vince / Vinny?
I'm thinking of Vinko or even Wincenty, as nicknames to me aren't so much about shortening the name, but displaying affection. Could you choose a favourite or handful of favourites from these first middle name ideas?
Feel free to suggest other ideas. Vincent Albany
Vincent Alexei
Vincent Ambrose
Vincent Bartholomew
Vincent Benvolio
Vincent Darcy
Vincent Dorian
Vincent Elias
Vincent Evander
Vincent Fabian
Vincent Harper
Vincent Jasper
Vincent Leolin
Vincent Matthias
Vincent Maximilian
Vincent Raphael
Vincent Walter
Vincent ZachariahAnd, finally, what are your overall thoughts on Vincent?Much obliged!
Ottilie

I like it. I'd probably call my son Vin. Vint, Vinti, Venti, something simple and easily derived in my accent.Vincent Jasper, V. Raphael, V. Albany are nice.Vincent Conrad, Vincent Raymond, V. Marcus. My impression of Vincent is: bright, thoughtful, opinionated but softspoken, successful, determined, reserved ... and just a little bit unstable or mysterious.

Vincent Marcus feels very Roman to me, I like it! Thank you!

Thank you! Vicky might be cute - I'll have to ponder it.

Vinko is cute. I'm okay with Vin/Vinny/Vince, and I'm not much of a nickname person anyway, so I don't know what I'd use. Maybe V? V-bug? Could you choose a favourite or handful of favourites from these first middle name ideas? Vincent Alexei
Vincent Darcy
Vincent Elias
Vincent Fabian
Vincent Matthias
Vincent Walter
Vincent ZachariahAnd, finally, what are your overall thoughts on Vincent?
I love it. It's been in my top 3 for years and years. It's a good "everyman" name: it's a little bit elegant, a little bit "cuddly grandpa," a little bit "tough guy," a little bit "romantic artist."

This is the perfect way to describe Vincent, I think. Thank you!

1. I don't really care for Vinko... Vin is definitely the best nickname for Vincent! For me, its appeal is similar to Will.2. Vincent Alexei, and that totally shocks me! I usually don't care for "Alex" names, but Alexei goes well with Vincent. My personal favorite is either Vincent Wallace or Vincent Luther. 3. It's definitely not the worst name in the world! Would I personally use it? Nah. At least not as a first name. I still like it as a middle name option for Carl (my top favorite boy name).

I can certainly understand the appeal of Vin, it's just not really for me. It might grow on me over time, yet, I'm not sure. Thank you!

I actually really like the sound/flow of Carl Vincent. Just throwing that out there.

I don't have many thoughts on nicknames for Vincent, sorry.Of your list, I like...Vincent Alexei
Vincent Bartholomew
Vincent Darcy
Vincent Elias
Vincent Evander
Vincent Jasper
Vincent RaphaelOther suggestions:Vincent James
Vincent Rory
Vincent Paul
Vincent Jeremy
Vincent Caleb
Vincent Jove
Vincent Benjamin
Vincent MikhaelOverall thoughts:I prefer it as a middle name rather than a first name. It feels very upper-class, bordering on snobbish. It reminds me of Vincent Price and by extension Vincent Twice of The Muppets/Sesame Street. When I try to picture a Vincent, a very skinny man in a tweed suit comes to mind - probably from "old money" with ties (or supposed ties) to the nobility/royalty of at least half of Europe, but he's generally very reserved and bookish with few social skills. Sorry that's not a very positive picture?

That's funny, I know someone named Rory Vincent, haha

I'm honestly not very familiar with The Muppets, so I had to google Vincent Twice, and I still didn't recognise it, haha. I don't think the image you painted is very negative, actually; it's quite a literary one, and I appreciate that. Thanks!

I actually really loved Vincent Twice as a kid! But I was pretty super into Sesame Street, it being one of the only shows ever on the two channels we got.I do see Vincent as being a very educated, literary sort of name. :)

Vinko's mad cute. Vinko Biloba. My favorite from that list is Vincent Albany. Vincent is deep, royal purple, and Albany is deep crimson. I can't quite explain it, but I love the way they look together in my brain. The other combos don't quite do it for me like Vincent Albany does, but they're all great. I don't want to fill your head with any more!Vincent is a great name. He's handsome and strong, maybe harsh at times, but secretly super sensitive. *swoon*Not one of your questions but regardless I think Vince and Vin are both sexy nicknames.

Is Biloba a reference to the tree? I think Vincent Albany is my favourite from the combos I listed, too, as soon as I noted it down I felt like I'd hit on something, but I wanted to explore other possibilities. "Sexy" isn't really a quality I'm looking for in nicknames at the minute, ha! Thank you!

Haha yeah, like Ginkgo Biloba. =PAnd LOL sorry for the "sexy" comment, hope it doesnt make you think twice. I more meant handsome and sleak.

Haha, no, it's fine, it definitely didn't make me think twice.

1. I really like Vincent. My sister almost used this name on her son (her last name is Gough!)2. Vinko is adorable. I had no idea it was related to Vincent. My daughter LOVES Baby Genius, which has a dinosaur named Vinko on it. It's really a cute nn - totally works. Vince is the only one I would ever use, so I am not great with alternates, sorry. 3. Of your list, I like Vincent Elias and Vincent Raphael.
I would suggest Vincent Andreas, Vincent Lisle, Vincent Roscoe, Vincent Giotto or Vincent Merle.
4. My overall thought is that Vincent is usable, handsome, carries a distinguished flair and recognizable enough to be an asset to any kid today.

Do you have any more info on Lisle, or is it simply from the place / noun? Vincent Roscoe could be very sweet.Thank you!

Lisle is a variation on Lyle, which is actually from L'isle, which is "the island". It could also be a diminutive of Carlisle, which IS the city (I assume you referred to) in England. I often equate it (incorrectly) with Lyall, which is "wolf", and which I also love. Lisle is my favorite spelling.
vote up1
Oh. Well don't I feel like an idiot? Of course it's a variant of Lyle. This is what I was thinking of: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisle,_Dordogne

1. I probably wouldn't use a nickname. Vinko is cute.2. My top five (not that I don't like many of the others):Vincent Dorian
Vincent Elias
Vincent Matthias
Vincent Leolin
Vincent AlexeiYou had a lot of my favourite names listed as middles. It hurt me not to choose Raphael, Maximilian or Dorian, hehe. I'm not good at suggestions so I'll stear clear.3. I know someone whose middle name is Vincent. It always seemed pretentious to me, but I LOVE Vicente and Vicenta (I've been thinking about this one especially a lot recently), and most variants of it. For Vicenta, I would use the nickname "Vita".
