Expecting boy #1
I'm expecting my first child, a boy, and have narrowed it down to two combinations: Simon Reid and Simon Emmanuel. My husband wants Reid (which means red hair) and I want Emmanuel (God is with us). I much prefer a good meaning for a name but we can't decide on the middle name. What do you think?

Three is twice as good as two, especially when it means you can both have your choice.Test it out with your ln, but I think either Simon Reid Emmanuel or Simon Emmanuel Reid would be stunning.

Well I will obviously go with Emmanuel! (Just check my signature) I agree about name meanings and agree that they are important. You could always go with Simon Emmanuel Reid, as a previous poster suggested.

Would Simon Reid Emmanuel work? For the record, I like both combos. Reid does sound a bit more like a last name, but that's not really a problem. Both of my kids, my sister, and one of my brothers actually do have red hair, so that wouldn't be an unfitting name for one of them, I guess. But the "meaning" of a name goes beyond just what the original entomology was; it's about what a person associates with it. My mother's maiden name, for example, is Reid, so if I was considering using it that's what I would be thinking, and it would be given in honour of her, my uncles, and my Scottish/Irish heritage in general. Has your husband explained what he likes about the name and why it's important to him? That said, I love the meaning of Emmanuel. It's lovely as a middle name.

While I enjoy the meaning of Emmanuel, for me, Reid both flows and feels better with Simon. How about Simon Reuel?

Well, Simon is quite significant in and of itself as far as meaning and history. It means "He has heard" and is also the name of several saints and biblical characters. I am really a fan of the name. Good choice!Because Simon is such a great name, I think that it's not totally necessary that you consider meaning over sound for the middle name. While I do also like the meaning of Emmanuel, it seems overly religious paired with Simon. I feel terrible saying that, as I am a Pastor myself, but honestly I prefer Simon Reid for both sound and flow. It just works better to me. I'm sorry to side with your husband on this one, but I would go with Simon Reid over Simon Emmanuel.

I prefer Simon Emmanuel. It flows better than Simon Reid, which feels a little unfinished.

Simon Emmanuel is so elegant. Go with that one.

I love Simon! "Hearkening"...
I see the conflict. Reid is a nice handsome name. Emmanuel is a nice ancient name with a strong meaning, but is kind of a mumbly mouthful. I think of the two I'd vote for Emmanuel but I love popey names.Simon Reid Emmanuel is a pretty successful three-name combo. Idk if that's off the table...
"Benedict" is one of my favorite names with Simon, meaning "blessing." Its tamer form Bennett might appeal more... It's not quite as strong of a meaning as Emmanuel though.
Gabriel, "God is my strength"?
