I met a girl named Aidan.
Truly. She is probably in her very late teens, possibly early twenties. Met her at a party this weekend. I asked her to spell her name. I was quite surprised and had to check to see if Aidan is unisex (it isn't). I have to be honest and say that I quite liked it on her. It just seemed to fit and I had no trouble making the mental adjustment of Aidan to female. The meaning is "fire" so there was no controversy there. Still, it IS a male name on a girl, far before this year's trend reared it head. What do you think?______________________________________________

Personally not a fan of it on a girl. I know too many boy Aidans, have never come across a girl Aidan. It's just a boys name to me

While I like Aidan, I very much detest it on a girl! I would be horrified if this were my name or if my fiance suggested we use it for a daughter.

This is wonderful! There is no such thing as a "Guy's name" or "Girl's name", although commonality & perception may make it seem so.
Those who can only follow the crowd will be lost when the crowd disperses.

I know a girl Aidan, who's around my age (so like 16/17,) and I actually like it on her quite a bit. Sometimes I forget it's not a more unisex name.

there used to be a girl on another forum I go to, and her name was Aidan. I had to ask her if she was a guy or a girl at first, though lol

From what I've seen (living in Western Canada), Aidan (and its multiple variant spellings) has been used as a unisex name for at least ten years, and people were occasionally using Aiden for girls as far back as 20-30 years ago. The Aidan spelling does feel like the most masculine of them all, possibly because it ends in Dan.

I often have the knee-jerk reaction of "eugh!" when I read a name like that on here. But more often than not, I'm convinced by it in person. I'd imagine I'd have the same reaction as you -- I'd like it after meeting a cool person with the name.

I like it, though I'd prefer the spelling Ayden on a girl.
