Re: The Taste Experiment
I was surprised to discover some new underlying trends in my name preferences. Male Top 3: August (love the wholesome yet dashing feeling of this name), Errol (personal meaning, honoring an inspirational artist - Errol Morris), Theodore (classic)Runners Up
Sounds I find attractive: Evander, Eleazar, Alden, Almanzo
Unusual and interesting: Zephyr, Leif, Soren, Azriel, Orion, Atticus, Errol, Wilder
Classically handsome: Matthias, Dorian, Felix
Female Top 3: Athena (classic beauty and a strong meaning), Léonie (unusual without being unpronounceable, soft without being overly girly), CecilyRunners-Up
Frilly/Classic names I would have dismissed as too ephemeral in the past but have been charming me of late, especially when paired with a modern/strong sounding nickname: Florence, Juliette, Seraphina, Genevieve,
Classic but interesting: Blythe, Viola, Calliope, Ophelia
Strong and a little off-beat: Elowen, Ramona
Word names: Clementine, Magnolia, Mirabelle, Soleil__________________________________________________________________________________
Male 3 Least Favorite: Knox (trendy), Sylvan (sound), Ephraim (too religiously associated)Runners Up
Overly and overtly modern/cre8tive/trendy- or appear to be even if they have deer roots: Lennox, Fox, Calix, Holden, Axel
Contain sounds I dislike in male names (fer, syl, or, ish, cl, bow): Hamish, Frost, Everest, Boaz, Orson, Clive, Cormac, Inigo
Feel too religiously affiliated: Moses, Abram, Adlai
Negative pop-culture association: Dexter
Typify previous stages of my taste in names and now feel somehow juvenile (even if they are perfectly nice names on their own): Caspian
Female 3 Least Favorite: Axelle (feminization of a trendy male name), Cressida (sound), Thomasina (feminization of a common male name)Runners Up
Overly frilly / cloyingly sweet: Aviva, Cosette, Evelina
Contain sounds I abhorred in female names (cr, or, er, fer, ew, syl, w, pee): Dorothy, Eudora, Fern, Pearl, Sylvie, Winifred, Poppy
Feminized versions of common male names: Thomasina
