My preference in writing Japanese given names
Personally, I prefer writing Japanese given names in katakana rather than kanji.

Hiragana are prettier than katakana imo. Given that katakana are used mainly (albeit not exclusively) to write foreign words, it's a bit weird to use katakana for a name. Plus you kind of lose the meaning by not using kanji.

But kanji looks so much cooler!!! (says the American. I know Japanese people like katakana because it makes things look cool/foreign lol.)

Some Japanese names for boys I like are Arashi, Gen, Hikaru, Jun, Natsu, Riku and Sora.
