Leonardo.. usable?
Husband and I were talking about boys names again last night (as always). He loves ninja turtles and i'm throwing him a ninja turtles birthday party (we are true adults!).His favourite turtle is Leonardo and I jokingly asked him whether he would consider using Leonardo as a MN for a future son. He didn't really like it as he thought its too 'Italian' sounding for us (our surname is Arnold). I actually kinda like the name in general..Questions:
1. Do you think Leonardo is too over the top or Italian sounding as a MN for parents David & Rebecca. (potentially with no siblings having Italian names)2. Does Rufus Leonardo Stewart Arnold sound ok? 3. Which sounds nicest:
Rufus Leonardo Stewart
Caspian Leonardo Stewart
Barnaby Leonardo Stewart
Ignatius Leonardo Stewart
Ptolemy Leonardo Stewart4. Would it be weird for a kid to be given a name inspired by a cartoon character?

1. Nope, not too over-the-top Italian. Leonardo is definitely doable and if you have any qualms, you could always go with Leo which is a complete name in and of itself.2. Not really, imo. I don't care for the way the last two names have two syllables with the stress on the first syllable. Personally, I like Rufus Leonard Arnold better.3. I like Barnaby best followed by Caspian. Each is classic and eclectic without being dated or frumpy. Having said that, I do like how Caspian Arnold sounds better than Barnaby Arnold.4. Nope.

Each example is absolutely fine: my favorite is that which begins with Caspian. The Leonardo name is a far older than the Cartoon, and it is perfectly acceptable, and in no way over the top - nor too deeply steeped in the any nationality. I say - naming him with it would bestow a blessing because you enjoy it so much.

I think it would be fine as a middle name. If he thinks it sounds too italian, maybe just Leo?
There's no flow what so ever in Rufus Leonardo Stewart Arnold. The surname totally ruins the flow in my opinion. Maybe with another middle name instead of Stewart, but I know you're kinda set on that one already.

1. I think it's fine as a middle name. I would never use it as a first name though. 2. I think it sounds very good. It has a nice flow. I love Rufus, by the way.3. I adore Ptolemy, so I have to pick Ptolemy Leonardo Stewart. Barnaby and Ignatius are great too. But Rufus Leonardo Stewart has the best flow. 4. I don't think it's weird, as long as it isn't a ridiculous name. And Leonardo isn't ridiculous at all.

1. It does found very Italian, to the point where I would not use it myself. I'd use Leo, Leopold, or Leon (most likely Leon). My background is almost exclusively British Isles.2. Rufus Leonardo Stewart Arnold sounds okay to me.3. Caspian Leonardo Stewart is my favourite by far.4. Maybe, but only if you told people that's why you did it. (It would also depend on the character and how "serious" the show is considered in general, but I'd just neglect to tell people that's why I chose the name.) Leonardo is also quite strongly associated with Leonardo da Vinci, who predates the turtle by quite a few centuries.

No, I don't think it's too over the top or Italian sounding. It's a foreign name that has become assimilated.Well, I don't like Rufus, so I'm not the one to ask about Rufus Leonardo Stewart Arnold.

1. I personally don't think Leonardo is too "Italian" to use, but I am the type to just use a name whether you have any cultural link to it or not.2. Well I adore the name Rufus, so the combo is fine imo.3. I like Rufus, Caspian and Barnaby, but I love those names! 4. Plenty of parents name their children for characters from TV shows, movies or books, or after actors or singers, so I think it wouldn't seem out of place.

Questions:
1. Do you think Leonardo is too over the top or Italian sounding as a MN for parents David & Rebecca. (potentially with no siblings having Italian names) I was going to say it's perfectly usable and still quite popular in Italy and several Spanish speaking countries but I see you are not. However, I don't think it would be a huge deal to use an Italian name in the middle. If you are worried about it being too ethnic sounding Raphael is a bit more accessible.2. Does Rufus Leonardo Stewart Arnold sound ok?It's not exactly the nicest flow, but it's alright. 3. Which sounds nicest:Honestly the Stewart is throwing me off, the first names all sound nice with Leonardo but when you throw Stewart on the end it sounds bizarrely mismatched.
4. Would it be weird for a kid to be given a name inspired by a cartoon character?Meh. Parents get inspiration from all kinds of things, there are thousands of children named after soap operas.

1. No, it's not over the top.
2. No.
3. Caspian.
4. I associate it more with Leonardo da Vinci.

As a middle name it could be a lot worse. It could be Leonard, for one.
However I don't think it sounds good next to Arnold, because of the repeated ar sound.
All those combos are huge mouthfuls, and I don't like any of the first names anyway. Barnaby Arnold sounds especially bad; Barney Arnie.Leonardo's familiar because of Da Vinci and DiCaprio, not just the turtle, so I don't think it's that much of an issue, however, since the parents love the turtles, the association is a bit too obvious for my tastes.
