Re: One-syllable _ale-sounding names...
in reply to a message by Joiya
I like Gale (and Gail and Gayle - I have a friend named Gayle). :) While Gale does feel unisex to me (leaning towards masculine, actually), Gail and Gayle feel specifically feminine. Not really sure why.I don't think I'd heard of Vale as a name before, but it's lovely. Sort of a pesudo-equivalent to Glen / Glenn. Oh, and there's Dale as well, for a third...would make a rather "fitting" set of triplets, if not for the rhyming of Dale and Vale - that's probably quite a bit to similar for siblings. Though...you could do Vale, Glen, and Dell. Not that I would irl; but it could work in fiction.I prefer the Dale spelling to Dail by quite a bit. Dail looks like someone was trying to type 'dial' but got the letters in the wrong order.Kale sounds like a vegetable to me, no matter how it's spelled.Spelled Bail (but pronounced the same): Bail Organa from Star Wars, adoptive father of Princess Leia. I think I prefer this spelling to Bale, which makes me think of a bale of hay (though I suppose I should in fact think of Christian Bale).Due to the famous university, I can't see Yale as anything but a surname.I don't have much opinions about the rest except for Shale, which I know the stone golem character in 'Dragon Age: Origins'. While it's certainly a fitting name for a stone golem, I'm not sure how I feel about it on a human - though, one of the teachers at my high school named his son Stone, which I suppose is odder.
