I think I have a new name love
And it's Ivo. What do you think? How do brothers named August and Ivo sound to you?
Since I'll be using the English pronunciation of August, as opposed to the German, I think I'll do the same with Ivo and pronounce it as IE-vo.How about these combos? Any suggestions? I'll add a second middle name later.Ivo Bartholomew
Ivo Benedict
Ivo Elijah
Ivo Frederick
Ivo Hercule
Ivo Jasper
Ivo Nathaniel
Ivo Rafferty
Ivo Raphael
Ivo Theodore Much obliged!
Ottilie

I adore Ivo, though I prefer Yvo, which looks/feels more mystical and medieval to me.Ivo Balthazar is perfect.

Hate it. I have bad associations with it (although he spelled it Iwo) and I don't like it with August. The Iwo I knew had a sister named Liw (Liv). Ivo Benedict is the best combo.

Well, thank you anyway!

I love Ivo and Yvo. Ivo Pogorelich is a wonderful Croation pianist whose recording of Bach's English Suites (my favorite piano music ever written) is something I listen to very often, especially the prelude from Suite No. 3 in G minor. Listening to him might enhance your love for Ivo.https://youtu.be/m1XcFTlSXtk

Ah, I might give it a listen tomorrow while reading. Thanks!

I like Ivo "EYE-vo." Not too far out in English but I think it has a slightly affected punchiness. Like a mononym for a rock or pop star. I recall it being a mononym used by this guy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivo_Watts-Russell ... if I were to use Ivo it would be inspired by that.As a brother to August, both names seem hipster/bohemian. Not that that's bad though. August would be more classicky and aloof otherwise, and with Ivo it seems like a monthname. I think August and Ivor (similar prn) would be matchier. Ivo Frederick and Ivo Raphael are nifty.Ivo Alexander.

I love August and Ivor. I only recently mentioned my Uncle Ivor on the aunts and uncles post below, but I've been debating for some time how I would feel using the name, as, while he's actually one of my favourite uncles, the name wouldn't really be in honour of him. In any case, I think I've grown to love Ivo just that smidge more. Thank you!

Ivo is pretty cool! I like it. I think I prefer the IE-vo pronunciation. August and Ivo make an awesome sibset! They go very well together, in my opinion. I like names with lots of vowels.Ivo Benedict is by far my favorite but most of your combos are nice. Pairing Ivo with a longer middle name is a good idea.

Thank you! It's right there in your signature, but I always forget you're a fellow August lover!

Well, if you pronounce it IE-vo, it makes it even more East European to me. I don't particularly like names of this kind, but that's just my personal preference.
BUT August doesn't sound like it at all! Therefore I don't think it's a good match. August is also classy with a very noble touch to it. Ivo looks and sounds abbreviated and therefore rather modern. Here a few sibset suggestions:Ivo & Anton
Ivo & Artur
Ivo & Cyril
Ivo & Dario
Ivo & Gabriel
Ivo & Maxim
Ivo & Mario
Ivo & Milan
Ivo & Niko
Ivo & Rafael
Ivo & RomanAugust & Anton
August & Benedict
August & Carl
August & Casper
August & Conrad
August & Cornelius
August & Eugene
August & Leopold
August & Oscar
August & Otto
August & Wendel
August & Xaver

What is it you don't like about Ivo - the fact it's most often a diminutive with this pronunciation?I love Roman and Rafael, but wouldn't use them as first names with my top girls' name, Romilly. I'm really digging Otto, lately, though; August and Otto remind me very much of WWI soldiers, and while it's a melancholy association, I rather like it, as I finally fell in love with the name August while visiting Langemark cemetery some years ago.Thank you!

I like Ivo, it's respectable and cute. I prefer Ivan myself, but that's mainly just because I adore the nn Van. Ivo is more refreshing and livelier than Ivan, though, so I'd probably be more excited to meet a little Ivo than an Ivan.Usually I do prefer the German pronunciation with many names, but not so with Ivo. IE-vo is how I instinctively pronounce it, and I really don't care much for EE-vo. It sounds like a masculine form of Eva then, and for some reason that bothers me. I dunno. Plus, it makes me think of EVOs from the now cancelled show Generator Rex.Anyway! I really like Ivo Bartholomew and Ivo Hercule (this one is especially great). Few other suggestions...Ivo Conrad
Ivo Simeon
Ivo Roderic
Ivo Barnabas

Super cool. Simple and slick. I'd prefer EE-vo, and I think most people would pronounce it that way at first glance to be honest. August is different because it's also an English word. Up to you, though!I like Ivo Benedict best from those combos. Ivo Theodore is very nice too.Ivo Willam
Ivo Gabriel
Ivo Forrest
Ivo Edward
Ivo Leopold

Interesting! I'm not so sure, as I feel like Ivor is fairly known, here, and it tends to be pronounced with the IE sound at the beginning. Man, I wish I could use Gabriel - everyone's always suggesting it!Thank you!

I'm not sure I've heard Ivo before, and pronounced IE-vo I like it! I don't like "EE-vo" as the link says it's pronounced. Sounds too close to "evil."Ivo Bartholomew, swoon. Really the rest are meh, but I love that one. Ivo Elijah works well too, I guess.
