When I was in middle school, I had a friend named Geraldine, although we didn't go to school together, as she attended the parochial school. She always said that she was named Geraldine because her mother, having suffered several miscarriages, prayed to St. Gerard during her pregnancy that this baby would make it through.

Anyway, I can't say that I like it. Seems clunky to me. And I really hate the possible nickname Geri, though I must say my friend Geraldine was never called Geri.
