Re: which do you prefer?
in reply to a message by Katie
Ludwig or Gustav? - Gustav - hard one, as I don't really like either. I'm going to go with Gustav, because Ludwig reminds me alternately of the words Luddite and wig, neither of which are particularly flattering, and because Gus is a decent nicknameLeonard or Leopold? - Leopold because it is more obviously shortened to Leo sound-wise and it's kingly. Leonard sounds more whiney to me.Anne or Ann? - Anne. Looks more "finished"Isabel or Anabel? - Isabel - just like it moreSara or Zara? - can I pick Sara, but pronounced Sah-ruh rather than Sayr-uh instead? haha. I'll go with Zara then, since I like the longer-softer 'a' sounds in it.Aurora or Dawn? - Aurora - more musical, and where I'm from Dawn sounds much like Don so it doesn't always sounds very feminine/can be confusing over the phone ;)Christian or Christopher? - today I'd go with Christopher. I like both, but Christopher has more nickname optionsEva or Ava? - Ava (or Eva but pronounced like Ava ;) )Julia or Juliet? - Juliet - once I would have picked Julia, but of late I'm more enamored of the longer Juliet. I like the ending sound - it trips off the tongue, and that it can be shortened or not.Constantine or Valentine? - Valentine - Val is cool, Connie...not so muchNatasha or Natalia? - Natalia, no question.Edward or Edmond? - Edmond. It needs it's day. Yeah, Edward might have more heft or solidity to it because 'ward' sounds a bit stronger than 'mond', but as I'm a fan of The Count of Monte Cristo and Lewis' Narnia books, (yes, not always flattering namesakes, but interesting characters) I go with Edmond. Oh, and I do prefer this French spelling to the English Edmund. :) (And I like the Irish Eamon/Eamonn too!)Wilbur or Wallace? - Wallace, hands down. (even though I love Charlotte's Web :) )

Marie or Mary? - Marie for sure.
