I like Alexa, Caden and Sawyer, kind of.

Alexa: Boring, but better than Alexis.
Brielle: Pretty, but I'm not a huge fan of "elle" names in general. If I had to pick an elle name, Brielle would probably be it though.
Caden: Okay, but a bit boring. I don't mind it though. It's good.
Jaxon: Too trendy.
Jayla: Also too trendy.
Jenna: Not newfangled at all, but boring.
Paisley: Bleah.
Piper: Cute.
Ryder: Trying too hard to be cool.
Sawyer: Same comments as Jenna.
Summer: Pretty, I like it.
Tristan: "Newfangled"? "American"? What even? I like this name a lot and it's definitely old and European, not new or American!
Zoey: Also not newfangled. It's cute and happy-sounding.

Yes. I happen to have a soft spot for both Jenna and Brielle. I just love their simple little sound. They seem cute to me. I considered both myself. Summer I don't think belongs in a "newfangled" list, but I guess it is an American thing. I have always thought Sommer to be adorable as well. Alexa, Caden, Jaxon, Jayla, Paisley (my mom LOVES this), Ryper, Sawyer, and Zoey I think fit right into this list and they are not my style at all. Piper is a bit more historical that it looks, and we owe its connotations to the TV show "Charmed". It reminds me of Tiffany. A well-used name that got a bad rap. Tristan is not newgfangled... what? I might not like it, but it's been around for a long while.

Tristan's a pretty common name over here in France. I know several.I kinda like Summer.

I used to like Caden until it became too popular. I still quite like Cade. I don't mind Jenna but would never use it myself. In theory I think Ryder and Sawyer are pretty cool and I don't mind seeing them used. I like Summer a lot as a middle name, especially (in theory) for a boy. Tristan (m) is the name I like the most from the list. I really dislike Brielle, Jayla, Paisley and Piper. Not a fan of Alexa either. Kind of neutral on Jaxon and Zoey.

Alexa - I really like it; the oldest Alexa I know was born in the UK in the early 1950s, perhaps because her parents wanted something close to but less popular than Sandra.
Brielle - anything rather than a name that could shorten to Gay, I assume. Daft.
Caden - lost the -ce? Silly.
Jaxon - why pretend to be dyslexic when you aren't? And if you are, you can get help.
Jayla - prison warder? I don't think so!
Jenna - oh, it happens elsewhere all right. Silly and sloppy and as bad as Brenna.
Paisley - actually a GP of mine, but only as a mn!
Piper - very silly.
Ryder - yuck.
Sawyer - unattractive sound, outdated career.
Summer - silly.
Tristan - neither newfangled nor American! I don't mind it.
Zoey - abysmal with the -y, otherwise OK

I like almost all of them on other people, except maybe Jaxon, Jayla, Ryder, and Sawyer, but they're still okay. (I generally dislike the letter J.)I would use: Alexa (if that wasn't my name), Brielle (only as a middle name), and Tristan (probably as a middle name).Alexa - Love. My favorite version of the Alexandros feminine versions. (My name. ;D)
Brielle - Cute. I love it even though I generally dislike the letter B. Better than Gabrielle and Ariel, which is too obviously Disneyesque for me.
Caden - My favorite spelling of this name, although a bit too trendy for me.
Jaxon - Fine for a character.
Jayla - :( Maybe for a character.
Jenna - I prefer the spelling Genna; it would make a nice nickname for Genevieve.
Paisley - Cute. I would like this on someone else's child, but not on my own.
Piper - Same as above.
Ryder - :( The connotations of this name taint it.
Sawyer - Just don't like the sound of it that much. "Soy"-er. Not that I don't like soy…
Summer - It's okay on someone else's child. But it wouldn't work if they didn't have a sunny personality.
Tristan - Love.
Zoey - Prefer the spelling Zoe. It has a spunky appeal, but may not work if the child is an introvert.

I like Sawyer, not that I'd use it myself. Piper, Summer and Brielle are okay.

I love Jenna. It's such a sweet name. So is Summer. Alexa is cute, Sawyer is a guilty pleasure. The rest I dislike.
vote up1
I like:Alexa - is nicer than Alexis
Brielle - I actually like better than Gabrielle
Jenna - a nice, pretty, sort of "standard" name. Not as timeless as Natalie, but not as dated as Megan.
Summer - has grown on me. It's kind of like Jenna, common enough to be sort of boring but not so common as to be tiring. It's pleasant.
Tristan - puzzles me. I wouldn't group it with these other ones.
vote up1
Alexa -It's cute. I definitely prefer it to Alexandra, though I think I like Alexia the best of the Alexander feminizations.
Brielle -I find the hard r- at the beginning hard to pronounce and I hate Bree, but Ella as a nickname could be nice.
Caden -It's obviously because of the -aden popularity, so it's very one timey to me. It does sound quite nice though.
Jaxon -I love Jax, but Jaxon seems like it's trying too hard.
Jayla -I'm not sure about the -la ending on this one. It just seems awkward. I adore Jay for a boy though.
Jenna -It doesn't actually seem modern to me, just like a nickname for Jennifer, so there's that. I prefer Jen.
Paisley -The pattern? Uh, no.
Piper -I've always liked this one. I wouldn't use it, but it's cute and I think it ages well.
Ryder -Just spell it Rider and be done with it! Ryder is just awkward. But please, Rider sucks as well.
Sawyer -It's cute for a boy to an extent, but it seems very Tom Sawyer to me.
Summer -I prefer winter. It also kind of sounds like "Some are...".
Tristan -It sounds nice (reminds me of bakeries for some reason) but the meaning throws me off.
Zoey -This is second only to Zooey as the worst spelling of Zoe ever.

"Zoey -This is second only to Zooey as the worst spelling of Zoe ever."Even more than Zowie?

I like Caden spelled Kaden or Kaidan. I like Jaxon spelled Jackson. I also sort of like Sawyer depending upon my mood.
vote up1
Paisley I like as a mn, because it's quirky and I personally love the pattern and hippy vibe it gives off.
Piper is not a name I would personally use, but as a mn for someone else's child, I would not think it was hideous.
Summer I love! It's such a happy, friendly name and I would even consider using it in the future. Alexa, Brielle, Jenna, Ryder, Sawyer and Tristan are all super trendy and imo won't age well.
Caden, Jaxon and Jayla are, well the less said about them the better!
Zoe, this spelling only, I love, but Zoey just looks trendy and wrong.

I like:Alexa*
Jenna
Piper
Summer*
Tristan*
Zoey* I'd be willing to use these.

Tristan & Zoe are all right. (pretending that y doesn't exist.) Alexa and Jenna are nms but bearable.
vote up1
I'm fond of Summer and Tristan.I like Jenna and Zoey, though prefer Zoe.I think Alexa, Sawyer, Ryder and Jackson (not Jaxon) are ok.Brielle disappoints sound-wise, but I have no other problem with it.I don't care for Caden, Jayla, Paisley or Piper and, to be honest, these are the ones on your list I would internally think of as disappointing choices upon meeting young bearers, though I don't see any of these as difficult to live with.
vote up1
Gasp - I like them all (except Paisley and Ryder).
vote up1
None enough to use but I like the following okay:Caden
Jaxon (prefer Jax)
Piper
Summer
Tristan
Zoey

Tristan is beautiful, but not as beautiful as his counterpart Isolde and all her variants.Piper is cute in a spunky way.I moderately like the idea of Zoe / Zoey but associate it with yucky people.Paisley seems desperate, but there is some kind of cheesy appeal to it, but that's probably just 'cause I'm a cheesy person.Summer, Sawyer, Jenna, and Brielle are nice but blasé.Alexa, Caden, Jaxon, Jayla, and Ryder are all a little grating and bring about the image of annoying, loud children screaming in a grocery store.

I especially like Brielle and Ryder. I quite like Kaden and Jackson as well, with these spellings.
Tristan, Sawyer, Piper and Jenna are decent.
vote up1
Tristan is fine, so is Zoe with that spelling only. The rest hold no personal appeal.
vote up1
I don't love any of them, but I like Tristan. These names just seem sort of everyday, typical, ennuieux to me.
vote up1
Out of these names I like Alexa, Paisley, Sawyer and Tristan as they are names I like and would use. Ryder and Piper are not bad names but I wouldn't use them, the others I would not use and I particularly don't like Brielle, Jaxon, Jayla, Jenna and Summer.

I like Alexa, Brielle (much better than Gabrielle), Caden, Sawyer, Summer, and Tristan. I like Zoe with no y, also.

I have an appreciation for Tristan and Zoe (this spelling only). The rest are definitely NMS.
vote up1
I like Brielle, though I prefer Briella. This is because I also like Gabriella, but dislike the nickname Gabi / Gabby, so this is a convenient way around the epithet.Jenna is nice... as a nickname for Jennifer. Otherwise it's a little "spare."Sawyer is a GP for me, mostly due to Mark Twain but also a *little* bit because of the character on "Lost." :-)Summer isn't terrible, but she needs a no-frills middle name that isn't too trendy. Zoey is also okay, though I think Zoe looks much nicer.Alexa, Piper, and Tristan don't do anything for me. (I also don't see how Tristan is "newfangled." It's a medieval name.) But they're hardly objectionable. The others can go away.
vote up1
Summer is dated and Tristan is not "newfangled."

The "Newfangled American list" is a list found on BTN's theme page now. By the list's standards, Tristan is newfangled-- it doesn't appear in the top 1000 before 1970 but ranked over 150 later than 2000. Summer also ranks that way.
vote up1
Ah, I didn't bother to read the conditions for "newfangled". The word means something totally different to me, but the details you listed make sense for the name.
vote up1
Perhaps trendy, but not newfangled.
vote up1
Then complain to Mike, he wrote it?

Not really, I could get behind Zoe spelled thus-ly, but Zoey always makes me want to say Zo-ee-ee. Otherwise none of them are my style at all.
vote up1
I like Tristan quite a lot, but I wouldn't call it newfangled or particularly American.
vote up1
I like Sawyer and Tristan, but only on a boy.
Alexa is okay.
vote up1
I only like Paisley and Piper.

Alexa - I don't really care for "Alex-" names at all for either gender (except Alexei), so it's no surprise that Alexa doesn't do much for me. I do think it's better than Alexandria / Alexandra and Alexis, though, and way better than Alexia.
Brielle - I like this! It makes me think of Sky Sailing's "Brielle."Goodbye Brielle
Only whispers can tell
Of the sweet dreams that we knew so well
I'll see you around our dear ocean town
The frozen days we set ablaze
Sent me drifting away
Like a butterfly, you floated by and now you're alone
I wish I knew when I'll be back again
So until then I wish you well
My dear BrielleI think it's sweet.
Caden - It's an -aden name, therefore I dislike it. That said, it's probably my favorite of the -aden names.
Jaxon - Jackson is just kind of okay, Jaxon is silly.
Jayla - I thought this might've been a further transcription of Jaleh, but I guess not. I like Jaleh more, but Jayla isn't bad. It sounds more grounded than Kayla or Layla.
Jenna - I've always liked Jenna; when I was little I thought it was one of the coolest names EVER. I like it much more than Jennifer.
Paisley - I think of artificial parsley flakes.
Piper - I used to like the idea of it, but the novelty's worn off. It seems a bit bratty to me now.

I really like Alexa and Tristan (male only) also very fond of Summer

With many my problem is the spelling, not the name itself.I do like:Alexa
Jenna
Piper
Zoey -I like Zoe

I don't love them, but I don't despise them either.Piper, Sawyer, and Zoey are the ones I like the most. Jaxon, Jayla, and Tristan are the ones I like the least.I know a Paisley and a Summer.I grew up with a girl named Bree who had a brother named Cade (both of which I like slightly more than Brielle and Caden).

I kind of like Jenna, but I see it more as a Cornish name than an American name. Tristan and Zoe (spelled this way) are also ok but not favourites.

I like:Alexa
Caden
Summer
TristanZoe with no Y tacked onto it.
Jenna is alright
Paisley, Brielle, Jaxon, Jayla don't bother me

I loved all of these names when I was 13. Like seriously, I am almost certain I have this list somewhere and it's called "Kool Naymes" and there are stars and hearts decorating the margins.I still rather like Summer, Piper and Tristan in theory, and Caden is pretty nice. I like Cade. Not the n, but the rest is really cool. And Jayla has a pretty sound.
vote up1
I've always thought Brielle was really pretty. I dislike Gabrielle, but I totally get Brielle.I also think Summer is great and I think Jenna is cute.Alexa really bores me lately, I've met so many in the last few weeks. Why didn't your parents use Alexandra? The only one that truly bothers me on this list is Jaxon. The rest are just meh.

One of my favorite students when I was working in schools was called Brielle, and I think it works quite well in real life. I like it and would definitely not be upset to see it used. I think I actually like it better than Gabrielle.I like Summer well enough, it's pretty and I like the seasonSawyer for a boy is charming

I decided to look up Brielle and saw that it's a short form of Gabrielle. I hate Gabrielle because of the "gab" sound, so it makes sense that while I hate Gabrielle I like Brielle.
vote up1
Yeah, the part of me that dislikes nicknames as full names makes me want to like Gabrielle more but like you, I dislike the 'Gab' sound. Brielle is much better IMO :)
vote up1
Ditto what both of you have said - and interestingly I love Gabriel! Definitely a different sound in the beginning though.
vote up1
I love Gabriel too!

Alexa - no, but I like Lexa, Allie and Alexandra.
Brielle - no.
Caden - sort of, I've got Kade and Cade on my long list.
Jaxon - no.
Jayla - no.
Jenna - I would've thought this was dated, not new-fangled. I do like it.
Paisley - no.
Piper - not really.
Ryder -no.
Sawyer - no.
Summer - yes, Summer (and Winter) are both on my long list.
Tristan - no.
Zoey - no. (But my best friend is Zoe, so she improves it; but only that spelling).

I don't know what the criteria is for "newfangled American names" because some of these don't seem to be.
I only really like Jenna, Summer and maybe Tristan.
vote up1
The only one I can half stomach is Zoey, but spelled Zoe. I only like it because it's my dog's name and I adore her. Do you like them?
vote up1
I like some of them.
