Initial Names
What do you think of using the first and middle initials as a name? Like CJ, BJ, AJ, DJ, PJ, TJ, MJ, JJ, JD, CC and the less common DW, TW, CK, GK, RJ, JP, and JR. Which initials do you think sound the best as a name together? Do you think your own would work?

My dad used DJ after we moved a thousand miles. It was his opportunity not to be called Delmer. My initials are GS. They're ok but not the best.

I like it. JP is my favorite (John Pascal or John Paul). However, sometimes I think some of the ones ending with J sound kind of baby-ish, particularly JJ.I know a CC (Christina C.), a TJ (Thomas James), a JC (Juan Carlos), and a PJ (Philip John) and they all prefer these letters to their real names. It's a cool definer and conversation starter.

Ah! I would love to meet a DW these days. I think initial nicknames are totally fine. I had a very good friend named William Theophilus, and he went by BT. My mom calls my dad CJ (Charles Joseph), though no one else does. He calls her BB. This is probably why I call my husband JP affectionately sometimes. I guess for me, they seem like cutesy nicknames... but they can age well. I would do it myself (mostly for a boy) if it worked out with decent letters. TJ and JD seem like the standards, and AJ is probably the most common. CC I hear a lot for girls, but the rest I rarely hear or see.

One of my nicknames for a while was JJ, but that was from my first name (Jessica) and my family name that also started with J. Jessica was super common and each of us went mostly by nicknames. I like it and some of my oldest, closest friends still call me that.

My daughter's initials are LC. Mine are CZ which i guess would work.

I don't find it interesting enough to consider. Where I live, it happens quite often, especially in families with a strong tradition of naming kids after grandparents. This results in lots of cousins sharing the same name, so if one of them uses initials he becomes more identifiable. The most common ones seem to be JP, short for Jean Paul or Jean Pierre, but I've also seen AJ. Don't know that I'd recommend BJ - I had a colleague with those initials and they often raised a laugh from strangers passing her office door. The fact that her ln was Gay probably didn't help.I'm assuming that you mean 'using the first and middle initials of the person's actual names as a name' - right?

It's not to my particular style, the few people I know who do this it's usually because people can't pronounce their names. My uncle and aunt named their son Dylan James with the intention of calling him DJ but ultimately decided it was too much of an 80's nickname and just call him Dylan.

I don't like it. It's mostly done by people who don't like their names and choose not to go by them. And, if it's just a nickname then it bothers me because a name is better than initials. Even Kaylyn Paris is better than KP.

I have known an Aaron John who was called AJ by everyone but his girlfriend, and a James Bradley who was always called JB. My nephew David John was called DJ. I know in my nephew's case that calling him by his initials was not planned, it just happened. I like it fine when it works. It has to roll off the tongue. My first and middle initials, JD, do roll off the tongue, but I find initial names more suitable for males and I wouldn't want to have one myself.

I know an AJ, CJ, DJ, TJ, JD, RJ, JP, EJ, ET, and KJ. Phew. Yeah, I think that's all of them.Wait! My grandfather was JB. Okay, that's all of them.I love DW and that's absolutely because of the character from Arthur. Her actual first and middle were Dora Winifred. So cute.

I know a JB (guy) and a BK (woman). I find initial names boring, although I do like that they're androgynous. My initials are VN, and I don't think that really works as a name.

I love initial names, I've only met one person who goes by their initials and he's a DJ, I think it's really cute. It's childish in way but it also sounds intellectual to me as so many authors go by their initials. My favorites are CJ, DJ, PJ, TJ, JD, RJ, KD, and VJ. I also like all of the repeating letter initials, but moreso on paper than in speech or as a usable nickname. My own initials (KI) definitely don't work. But I'm always happy my full initials are KIS like kiss, it's cute. I kinda wish my parents gave me a second middle name so it could be KISS.
