Sure, you can insist on her full name and potentially be seen as having a stick up your butt.
Or you can invent another nickname and hope it catches on.
But, if you actually name a baby Violet, it is likely that she will have a personality and an opinion. She may like Vi and want to use it as her nickname. And if that is the end of the world, maybe you should find another name.
