I like quite a few Old Testament names. They're actually pretty common in Brazil, which is a Catholic-majority country. You hear Old Testament names a lot in Portuguese and Spanish-speaking countries. Most of them can work well on either Christians or Jews, though there's a good number (such as Solomon, Zipporah, Mordecai, and Shiphrah) that have never been common among Christians and are heard more often on Jews (many of these are pretty common in Israel, where Hebrew names are widespread).

I don't know how Old Testament names can be too Christian. But I got my son's name from the Old Testament. His name Joah which came out of 1 Chronicles of the bible. But I do think Noah, Jacob and David are way to common. Ezra and Asa aren't as much.

How can OT names be "too Christian"? what kind of names should Jewish people use if they can't use OT names (not that they can't use other names, esp. if they aren't particularly religious). But most Orthodox Jews have names derived from the Old Testament, or Torah.

I love Old Testament names for boys. Partly because I'm Catholic, so it isn't weird for me to use a "Christian" name, but mostly because they're just great names. The ones you listed are all nice names, especially Asa and Ezra, but I also love some more obscure ones like Ezekiel, Esau, Zebediah etc.

afaik, OT names would be stereotypical for Jewish people.

I've recently become fascinated with Obed.

There is such a huge variety of names in the OT! Some are common, others are not (i.e. Arpachshad, Oholibamah, &c). I can't think of any that are "too Christian," especially for a Jewish baby. Come to think of it, I don't know how that would be possible. There are names that are considered too Islamic for a Jewish baby, though (i.e. Ishmael).

I like many. I don't know if they're too common for Jewish babies, but I don't see how they can be too Christian.

Definitely not too Christian, at least major parts (if not all - can't remember) of the Old Testament make up the Torah which the Christian Bible then incorporates. So actually Old Testament names are more Jewish than Christian.I think they make good strong names for any child regardless of religion. But yeah, they do make good Jewish names.

I particularly like Jacob as a male name - and Hannah - I love, and I've always thought something inertly mystic about Abigail - and I mention this favorably, not to discredit the name in any way.

Noah, Jacob & David are common but they are nice names.
Ezra is a good one, I know 2 young Ezras (Jewish preschool)
Asa I've never heard, I don't really like it.
No OT name could sound too Christian. Mark & Mary are Christian sounding but not the ones you've listed. Rachel, Abigail, Hannah and Rebecca are all common but nice names.
Dinah is great, love it! I also like Jeremiah & Jemima for your consideration.

Why would Old Testament names be too Christian?
I think some are okay. Some are good, some are ugly, some are boring. Some are too common. Some are not. There are a lot of names in the Old Testament. Like, hundreds.http://www.behindthename.com/names/browse.php?type_description=1&operator_description=is&value_description[]=%22old+testament%22http://www.behindthename.com/submit/browse.php?type_description=1&operator_description=is&value_description[]=%22old+testament%22
My favorite names in the Old Testament are Jorah, Mordecai, Ari, and Jonas for boys and Tirzah and Keturah for girls.
