Rayne -yay or nay?
I have really been loving Rayne as a female first name. Is is too tacky? For some reason I don't really like Rain as a first name but I like it as a middle name.

My very first reaction was to mentally associate Rayne as a creative extrapolation/feminization of Ray / Raymond. I did not think of the nature word or see any mental imagery as I do when I read the Rain spelling. On its own, Rayne did not strike me as "tacky" but if this spelling is meant to mean "rain", the alteration does feel silly to me. I don't mind Rayne visually and it's easy to pronounce. Sound-wise, I prefer Reyna / Rayna.

I'd rather see it Raine or Reine, close to the original "queen" meaning. Rain is tacky because its a word, and a thing at that.Adding a y is tacky because it yells "look I made a word into a name! Arent I clever!"

It's certainly tacky. Whether it's too tacky will depend on your tolerance for tackiness. You should get away with it, I suppose, as long as you don't name her sister Storm.

Hi !!!Rayne as a variant of Rain?
No! No! No! It is too tacky! When I saw the question my first thought was that Rayne could be a variant of Raine/Reine/Reina/Regina but...when I saw that you were asked for a variant of Rain...nay!!!Well..Rayne as a variant of Raine/Reine is tacky too.So...I'm sorry. It is a big Nay! XDXDXDByeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Nay. I once knew a boy named Rain. In reality, it's a really odd name to use on a daily basis.
