I'm so used to just knowing that this is a boys name that I don't even know what to think of it as a girls. In my mind it doesn't really work as a girls name? To be fair, I'm not a fan of the name Hamlet no matter what gender it's used on

I dislike Hamlet in general (makes me think of tiny pigs), but hearing it on a girl is just..... I don't really like it.

No. Just no.It might have been cool for a boy. But a girl. Oh man.

It's not even good on a boy. You can't associate it with ANYTHING except the Shakespeare play. She will get: "Hey, to be or not to be?" all her life. Couldn't they at least have named her Ophelia or Gertrude instead?

The worst part is...after obviously thinking of Hamlet, I think of piglets. I don't like it; not for a boy, not for anyone.

It reminds me of this book: http://www.amazon.com/Total-Tragedy-Girl-Named-Hamlet/dp/0142417483It's so weird and unfortunate that I kind of have to like it! :^P

Hi !!!!It is so strange Hamlet for a girl!!!!
Poor girl...
I would not use it at all.Maybe her parents were looking for a word similar to "amulet" for bring her good luck but...the result is very bad.

I'm sorry, a GIRL named Hamlet? That is hideous!

If there had been no Shakespeare, it could be a nice name. Interesting the parents chose it for a girl - maybe they thought people wouldn't associate it as strongly with the play in that case?

Weird. I don't think the baggage of the name is too much, tragic characters are cool, but it just sounds bad. Like it's not a nice sounding name for a boy, let alone a girl. I think it could work as a middle name and I say that sort of reluctantly.Very interesting sighting, though! I wonder what nicknames she has, if any.

Ooh ... ew. I can't give any support to that one.

Beyond dumb. If her parents were even slightly familiar with the play, they would know it's a male name and that it carries far too much baggage to be used as a name for a boy or a girl.
It would make a good name for a pet pig.
