Help choosing Sons name
On May 19th I gave birth to our 4th baby a son at 24 weeks 640grams 7.5 inches long. We thought we had his name set FINALLY after much discussion and trying to choose after he arrived so early BUT then all of our families and fate as it were have us rethinking the order of his name. SO I come to you guys since you are so amazing with names and helped us last time with our 26 weeker (Casper Blaise) now 4.5 yrs old. Which would you choose?ALL of the nurses in the NICU have been calling him WILD Wolfgang since he arrived. He is VERY fiesty and generally just does not want to cooperate with them when they try to position him and when they try to wean him from the intubation to breathe on his own. That's the little bit of fate in the story. The names we are trying to choose from areWolfgang Wilde
Wilde WolfgangHis siblings love Wilde. His baby brother the 4,5 yr old all of a sudden started calling him Wild Wolfgang the day after he was born at this point we have tentatively gone with Wolfgang Wilde but everyone seems to like the reverse better which honestly I am shocked by even the grandparents. LOL

Of the two options, I would go with Wolfgang Wilde. I think that Wilde Wolfgang (or even Wilde with any surname) not only sounds a bit silly, but could also cause your child to be teased.

I'd go with Wilde Wolfgang, it seems to be the one that's meant to be. He can always go by W. Wolfgang Lastname, or Wil W. Lastname if he feels self-conscious later, but I think Wilde as a name actually fits in better with the times than Wolfgang does!

Doesn't it? I think Wilde W. Carmichael is less comical than Wolfgang W. Carmichael.

Definitely! Wilde has a chic, tidy quality, whereas Wolfgang has more...floppy pomposity (which I also enjoy, don't get me wrong).

This is sooo fun. Honestly I think Wilde ages better than a lot of the posters here think, and given current name fashion, is actually a little more dignified than Wolfgang. You could call him Wilde Wolfgang no matter what order you want to put his names in, and Wolfgang Wlide Lastname is the Name I'd Rather Have. But, I mean, ...I'll draw you some tarot. The tarot was very vague and overall suggests the theme of your responses: Wolfgang Wilde is a bit more practical, and Wilde Wolfgang is a bit more romantic. Haha. Let us know!

Wolfgang Wilde is better considering he''ll grow up and need a not-jokey name, if you get my point. If you pick that order, you could still call him Wilde if you like, but at least he'll have something to fall back on/he can be called Wolfgang at school etc.

Wilde is just plain silly as a given name, but in the mn position it's fine. Wolfgang is unexpected and distinguished. So, Wolfgang Wilde!Wild(e) is a fine nn for a preschooler, but really not what anyone would want as a life sentence. Worse than Patience!

Good luck to him! I'd definitely stick to Wolfgang as a first name. People may find it cute and funny the other way round, but they don't have to grow up and become an adult with it. I would not fancy a Wild Wolf Gang doing my heart surgery, for instance.

Avoid pairing Wilde with anything involving animals. Especially a gang of animals.
Just don't.

I agree with others. Wild makes a fine nn, and lots of people go by their mn, but Wilde Wolfgang would pigeon-hole him more than Wolfgang Wilde would.

Wolfgang Wilde looks better.

Wolfgang Wilde. I don't think Wilde makes a good first name.

How about Wilder? I feel like it would age much more nicely, and you can still call him Wilde if you would like. I'm not sure about the middle name Wolfgang with Wilde(r) though, since it could lead to possible teasing. I understand if it's to honor someone, so maybe a second middle name could help? But if you really love it, then I think it's perfectly fine.

I actually dig Wilde as a first name, although I think Wolfgang Wilde would serve him better over the course of his life. I think I'd just ask yourself if you're daring enough to order his name that way! You can always call him Wild no matter what you name him, even if it's not part of his name at all.And bless little Wild, how scary being born that early but sounds like he's quite the fighter.

I'd say Wolfgang Wilde but he goes by Wilde. Wilde is very cool, but Wolfgang just sounds more like a name; more "official" I suppose. Everyone can still call him Wilde -- no one outside of your family will be the wiser. But should he not want to be known as "Wild" he'll always have Wolfgang to fall back on. (I also like Wilder but that wasn't the question, lol.)

I would stick with your guns and go with Wolfgang Wilde. You can always still call him Wilde as a nickname, but I think Wolfgang would look better on resumes and driver's licenses than Wilde.

Wolfgang Wilde. For the same reasons other people have said.

Wolfgang Wilde for sure. Wilde might seem cute and funky now, but later on I don't think it will have the same appeal.I'd go with Wolfgang and if the other kids end up calling him Wild as a nickname, then that is cute, but I'd definitely go with Wolfgang. Much more 'adult' name.

My inclination is that Wolfgang Wilde flows better. But, at the same time, if there's a consensus that he's more of a "Wilde", I think it makes sense to lead with that, rather than have him going by his middle name.

Wolfgang Wilde gets my vote. I wouldn't want to resolve that I'd call my son "Wilde" every day forever. If other people end up nicknaming him "Wilde" because it continues to seem to suit him, and the boy he becomes likes it - that'd be fine to call him by his middle name. But it seems to me that it's not all that dignified for a guy to bear a personal name that was actually chosen as a kind of semi-joke because of how he behaved as a newborn infant, and because a 4 year old (who might be his biggest antagonist someday) liked it - rather than because his parents believed it was such a fine first name for a man to bear. Anyway Casper & Wolfgang make a cool brother match, while Casper & Wilde sounds kinda comic. YMMV.

Wilde Wolfgang sounds like you're describing him, so I do like Wolfgang Wilde better in that respect. I do like the sound of Casper and Wilde for brothers though.
