dog names
Here's a little article I ran across online just now.
(AP) Bella and Max are top dogs in New York City.
The city Health Department announced Wednesday that it registered 1,127 dogs named Bella and 1,073 named Max in 2015.
Bella has been the city's most popular dog name since 2008. That's when the last of Stephenie Meyer's vampire-themed "Twilight" novels featuring heroine Bella Swan was published.
But some dog owners took their inspiration from the pantry and the garden.
The Health Department says it licensed 27 dogs named Bean, 17 dogs named Raisin and 15 dogs named Potato last year.
A total of 605 licensed dogs answered to Daisy, the most popular flower name. There were also 10 Tulips, four Primroses and two Daffodils.
Names that were popular with certain breeds included Snoopy for beagles and Tyson for boxers.
I actually know a woman with a pair of twins who are now probably ... ten? named Max and Bella. (Isabella and Maxwell but those are the names they go by.)
I can see how a dog might end up as Bean or Raisin, but potato?

I actually met a dog named Tater. At first I thought her owner said Taylor.
My parent's dog is named Max.
I named him. Thanks to Alexander all of our cats have super-pretentious names. I chose something super-common for my parents' dog. My mom, however, refers to him as Mr. Quacks.

I like Bean for a dog. That's one that I haven't heard before.
Bella and Max are so overused. They're not inherently bad names, but at this point, it's a little too unoriginal.

My niece and nephew's (sister and brother) names are Heather and Jaime, pronounced like Jamie. When they were children, there was a woman who lived down the street from us who had two dogs---I can't remember whether they were Golden Retrievers or Cocker Spaniels, but it was one or the other---named Heather and Jamie.
I know so many Bella and Max dogs. I go to the dog park a good bit and hear lots of Zoe (my family also has a Zoe), Bailey, Lucy, Daisy, Violet, Tucker, Dakota, Ranger, Jasper, Baxter, Toby, Finn, Ava, and Blue.
Some of my favorites I've heard are Clank, Eloise, Freddie (for a girl dog), and Margaret, which makes me laugh.

I remember meeting a pug named Edna.
It made my entire week.

I know a pug named Edwina!
There is a series of video games called Ratchet & Clank; the dog's owners might be fans. Clank is a robot.
Clank?
That's definitely a prize-winner.

If I had to pick between Bella, Max, Bean, Raisin, Potato. Daisy, Tulip, Primrose, Daffodil, Snoopy, and Tyson for a dog....
Tulip would win for a female dog and Bean for a male.

This is exactly why I vetoed Max even though my husband loves it, I totally associate it with dogs. Also didn't a movie just come out about a war dog named Max?
I also know a few people with dogs named Daisy.

I like Potato. For a super lazy dog (couch potato) or a fat round tan dog. :) It's cute. Nickname could be Tater, or Tater Tot for a little dog.
I want to name a dog Journey someday. I envision a female collie, an active dog.
And Garbanzo would be super cute for a little male dog, maybe one with a pug face. :) He could go by Bonzo. Maybe I'll get brothers and name them Garbanzo and Potato. lol
I also like Skippers and Trixie and Gideon for dogs.

Wow, dog's names are actually registered in NYC? I'd love to see that list.
Three syllables is a bit long for a dog name, imo. Spud would be better!

I think it's just a list of dogs people have licenses for and have registered. Not everybody licenses their dog.
Maybe some of the Potatoes got that name rather than Spud because their owners thought Spud was too obviously tied to Spuds McKenzie?
