Names you really like that are *not* in the Top 1000
What names do you really like, that didn't make it into the SSA's Top 1000 for 2015 (which truly encompasses a *lot* of births)? If you're not American, the BtN site does have lists from other countries, tough they don't go as high as 1000 - but if you have access to a longer list, feel free to use it!Mine:

Guilty pleasuresLoooove your list. I haven't checked their rankings, but I'd be blown away if any of the following were in the top 1000 here in the U.S:Ursula, Gobnait, Frederica, Madelief, Clothilde, Anouk, Leda, Dulcie / Dulcinea, Mairéad, Silvestra, Prudence, Afton, Consuelo, Murgheal / Muriel, Isibéal / Ishbel, Horatia, Myfanwy, Eugénie, Mor, Iphigenia, Nolwenn, Scholastica, Desideria, Egidia (see: Aegidius), Léonie / Léontine, Effie, Isabeau, Johari, Casimira, Edelweiss, Annetilde, Pierangela, Praskovia (see; Praskoviya), Gervaise, Eirwen, Carmela, Francoise, Nefertiti, Jacomina, Benedicta, Sibyl, Igraine, Callisto, Blaithin, Imelda, Glynis, Una / Oona / Oonagh, Anselma, Laurette, Elva / Elvy, Berangère, Simonetta, Angharad, Perpetua, Eimear, Ludivine, etc.

I think Angus beef is a big reason Angus is not more popular in the US.

Anica (Annika is 571; Anika is 580 in the US and 60 in Slovenia)
Araceli (fell off the US top 1000 in 2014)
Calixta / Calista (Calista fell off the US top 1000 in 2004)
Catriona (hasn't even been in the top 100 in Scotland since 2002)
Eloree (family name)
Graciela (really??)
Gwendolen (Gwendolyn is 404)
Harriet (surprising to me - it's popular in England and Wales, Australia, and New Zealand, though)
Imogen (very popular in several other English-speaking countries)
Linnea (popular in Finland, Norway, and Sweden)
Noelia (popular in Spanish-speaking countries and... Switzerland?)
Octavia (fell off US top 1000 in 1998)
Persephone
Robin (971 for boys, unranked for girls)
SalemAjax
Alastair (not even popular in England and Wales anymore)
Benedict
Edmund
Evren
Moroni (okay, not surprised by this one, haha - I bet it ranks in Utah, though)
Mosiah (same)
Phineas
Salem

Moroni doesn't rank in Utah either. I'm surprised-- last time it was used enough to appear in the background data was 2009-- 6 boys.
The best it ever ranked was in 2000-- 10 boys were given the name that year. Mosiah only ever appeared in 2001-- 5 boys.

Huh. I know a ton of boys and men named Moroni, but I guess there's not quite enough of a concentration of them actually being born in Utah each year to make the ranking. Thanks for looking that up!

Right off the top of my head, I can think of Aikaterine and Marielle. I understand that Aikaterine may seem too foreign or confusing to some, however, I'm completely at a loss for why Marielle (and Mariella) aren't more popular.

I love Ebony, Chiara, Sinead, Xanthe, Kirrily, Isley, Irie, Cleo, Asha, and Amalie. I also like Reilly spelled like this for a boy. Jai is refreshing to see.

I am so glad to see Sheridan on your girl's list!! I am in love with that name.

Susanna / Susannah - surprised it's not in the top 1000s.Love to see Shannon - I also like it on either (and would use it).

Elowen is definitely one off the bat I can think of. Elowen is one of my top girls name I wish was within the top 1000. I don't know where it currently ranks but hopefully we'll see it next year or in a few years?? Hopefully...lolRhiannon, Edmund & Ross are good. I like those

Usually I'm hoping my favourites will drop off the top 1000 (albeit the England/Wales/UK list) haha.
vote up1
I feel the opposite way. If there's a name I like, I love to see it increase in popularity. Or, I don't mind if it increases in popularity. (Even if I feel neutral towards that name) It's the names I hate and detest I prefer to decrease on the charts. Quite a few top favorite names of mine increased (even by a smidge) and I couldn't help but to feel giddy at that (:
vote up1
Elowen is a really pretty name, but I doubt it'll catch on with any significance in the U.S. But I can see it catching in the U.K.
vote up1
Perhaps so. And it doesn't matter to me if it doesn't catch on significantly in the U.S. Elowen could be stationed at the very bottom and I'd be pleased as punch (:

I believe the top 1000 is 74-76% of births?

delancy i really really love this name so much but every where i ask i get negative feedback for it. everything from it looks like delaney misspelled and that it looks made up to its too chavy. its a real name that was a surname now used as a first name. no different from the other surnames that are now first names. by the way i hate delaney but everyone has said i prefer delaney. i seem to love names everyone hates and hate names everyone else loves lol.

Love Eulalie and Fay, as well!

Haven & Sky are within the top 1000.

forgot to mark (m) on Haven... don't like it for a girl. It's not in the top 1000 for boys. I assume BTN used Sky as a male name (I have it on my PNL as m&f), I copied this list with the ranking tool on my PNL.

I love Seraphina and Seraphine!
I had a friend in middle school who was called Parisa, she was from Iran.
