Battle of the Names: Results
I have been asking about names for each gender, going through the alphabet (Amy/Beverly, Ariston/Benedict, etc.) that I would use for a grotesquely large, Duggar-like brood, should I ever have one. I tallied up all the votes for each name to see which ones would win, and these are the results. The winners are in bold, along with the number of votes each name received. I also included some of my favorite comments from members. Thanks for helping me construct the Ultimate Super Mega Name List. It was fun. :)
AMY - 28
BEVERLY- 4
ARISTON- 8
BENEDICT - 16
"Ariston is some aristocracy bs." -Tuesday
DELILAH - 12
COLETTE- 11
"Colette just sounds so utterly trivial, like it could be a word for a plastic poker chip." -mirfak
COLE - 8
DONOVAN - 8
(I decided these would be twins, since the votes were tied).
"Donovan is really associated with the mononym for me. And it's kind of a lame one, because, even though I know I'm generalizing, I tend to chalk him up to Bob Dylan's overeager friend." -Tuesday
ELINA- 4
FRANCES - 10
EDWARD- 9
FREDERICK - 11
"Neither, can I pick Fredward instead! Also points to anyone who gets the reference!" -lakin5
GRETCHEN- 9
HANNAH - 18
"Hannah...it's just flabby! Not even its status as a palindrome can save it from tedium." -Anneza
GABRIEL- 8
HENRY - 12
"Henry's not a bad name. But Hank makes me think of dead, greasy locks of cut hair on the floor." -mirfak
INGRID- 5
JULIA - 16
IAN- 12
JAMES - 16
"Here I will say that the name Ian has a special meaning to me. My heart thrills and my knees go a little weak whenever I see it and whenever I hear it.
James did that once, too....but that died fairly quickly.
As a name, I've never liked Ian. I think it whiney and somehow insubstantial. I've always liked James, it's strong, handsome, and classic.
You know what? I started out intending to choose James, but James in the end was a dick and Ian will always make my heart thrill.
It's legitimate to associate a name with a person and like it or dislike it due to the association, no?
So Ian it is!"- queenv
KATE- 9
LENA - 20
"Kate is way too common; in particular it seems like it pops up way too much in fiction. If someone wants a strong female character, they name her Kate. Lena at least is different." -Iac
KELLY- 6
LAURENCE - 15
MIRA - 15
NINA- 13
"Mira is fine, but it's also a mirror from New England." -Tuesday
MILES - 15
NATHAN- 11
"Miles is weak. If Miles, Felix, and Theodore got into a fight, Miles would beat them both to a pulp, but that's like saying a bush gives more shade than a lawn does. Nathan is harsh and mediocre, but at least it's substantial." -mirfak
OLIVIA - 12
PAIGE- 6
OTTO- 4
PAUL - 14
"Paul, because Otto is the often high bus driver from the Simpsons to me." -Myosotis
QUINN - 11
RILEY- 6
"I'd pick (at gunpoint) Quintillian, nn Quinn. And I"m not joking." -Anneza
QUENTIN - 7
ROYAL- 3
"Royal. Quentin would win at chess or golf." -mirfak
SUMMER - 8
THEA- 6
SAMUEL - 10
THEODORE- 5
"I hate Samuel. It sounds slimy to me, like a snot-filled loogie." -humblebee
VIVIAN - 12
ULYSSA- 4
"Ulyssa? That would make a stone statue smile." -Anneza
VINCENT - 14
WILDER- 6
"Imagine shagging a guy named Wilder. How could you say his name without laughing?" -mirfak
So, my kids would be: Amy, Benedict (Ben), Delilah, Cole, Donovan, Frances (Frankie), Frederick (Freddie), Hannah, Henry (Hank), Julia, James, Lena, Laurence, Mira, Miles, Olivia, Paul, Quinn, Quentin, Summer, Samuel (Sam), Vivian, Wilhelmina (Mina), and Vincent (Vince). Interesting mix. :P

Oh fun!
I'm surprised that...
- Frederick beat Edward
- Summer beat Thea (I thought everyone had an undying love for Thea/Theo names)
- Everyone hates Ulyssa
Also love these comments. queenv's Ian love story is a rollercoaster of fun. mirfak's take on Colette is genius. Anneza's so right, Hannah is the flabbiest!

Overall, I like them. I forgot to vote on Summer, but I would have voted for it. There were some hard choices there. I'm a little sad that Nina got kicked off, but Mira's not a bad trade.
Gosh, it's kind of embarrassing to be quoted saying silly things.
Tuesday's are funny :-D
Quintillian nn Quinn is cool.

I was pulling for Nina. Obviously I like Mira too, but Nina is one of my favorite names.
I didn't quote to embarrass anyone, I did it because I thought they were sharp or funny. I hope that comes across.
The thing that surprised me most was how many people liked Laurence for a girl. I never knew that was a thing, lol.
