When I think of "bad girl" I think of a tough girl, feisty, and badass.Veronica. That was the first name that popped into my head. The Veronicas I've known have been totally badass. (Which is not to say there aren't any shy or sweet Veronicas out there.) Delilah is another name with badass associations for me. Also, the nn Liz or Lizzie. Also, Stacy. As for good girl names, hmmm. Abigail. Jane. Michelle. Those come to mind.

The ironic thing is, one of my second cousins on my paternal grandma's side has a daughter named Daisy and she's actually a juvenile delinquent. A few months ago she got in serious trouble for truancy. All the Leilas I've known were pretty nice and well-behaved. Same with most of the Sabrinas.

Question - not right or wrong answer-merely "Vibes"I love literary heritage - especially through names. I think of Lucretia as a victim of rape (Shakespeare's Rape of Lucretia); however I know of no other common association. Are there other stories that might taint her name with wrong, sin, or, ominous traits? There is no right or wrong answer: I am merely curious to learn other meanings that I do not know. Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing about Lolita! (not so much Dolores, as I think there are a lot more associations for that one).

In the film adaptation, Lolita was depicted as a seductress. Rape victims are the classic example of "blame the victim". For centuries women have been blamed for causing their rapes, and unfortunately this still happens today. "Good girls" don't get raped. The girl /woman "must have been asking for it". Blegh.

No, no, no for God's sake!I was thinking about Lucretia Borgia! I would NEVER EVER blame a victim! For God's sake what are you thinking of me!?!?

Nothing about you in particular, or that you were thinking about any of it consciously. It's more of an unconscious cultural thing. You are hardly alone in thinking that Lolita has "bad girl" vibes, even though the original character was a victim. I've felt that way about the name myself. I get the knee jerk "bad girl" gut feeling about it, due to cultural associations I've seen, and then I have to remind myself that she was actually a victim of terrible abuse.

I 100% agree on all of your choices there!!

Sorry, but this seems to be mainly a list of literary or other characters who are "bad" or "good" and not a list of names, that for whatever reason, make you think of a "bad" or "good" girl. I mean, everybody knows a Pollyanna is a goody-two-shoes, the character is the only Pollyanna anybody knows of and the name became a common noun to describe a goody-two-shoes person.
Ditto for Jezebel, except on the other end of the spectrum.

Interesting question. For the bad girls names, I understand the reference, but don't think that people with those names other than the character / person are "bad" girls, there are some names that to me seem overwhelmingly associated with certain personalities (Bianca as a Queen B / Alpha B**ch comes to mind) but these are too tied to a singular association to have any impression on real people. Charity and Chastity are stripper names to me, don't know how that fits into the good / bad dichotomy.

Are the names Lolita and Dolores on the bad girl name list due to the fact that it's the name of the main character in the novel Lolita? Just wondering...

Yupnm

It doesn't really make sense to associate Lolita and Dolores as a bad girl name for that reason. In the novel/movie, she's particularity a "bad girl", the weird relationship she found herself in just kinda makes it seem that way.
