Lucille or Lucy?
If you had to do one or the other, would you rather name a daughter Lucille and use Lucy as a nickname, or name her Lucy itself?

The only reason I didn't name my first daughter Lucy was that there has never been a newborn human female who looked less like a Lucy. So I had to go through a name book from scratch, stopping at every name I liked and trying it on her in case it worked.I would never have touched Lucille. Weary and dreary and down-market and faux-French and lots of other bad things. I've met a couple of Lucille people and the've all been vapid and vacuous. If Lucy didn't work for some strange reason of surname sound or whatever, I'd use Lucilla rather than Lucille - and also rather than Lucia with its multiple pronunciations. And when I was a schoolgirl I named a cat Lucinda (she 'had to have' a L name) but called her Cindy, so that eliminates it for a person.

Lucille, because it's more formal.

Lucy on its own. I'm not big on Lucille.

Lucy hands down. Lucille is frilly and overwrought.

Lucille....food for thought, I have a step daughter named LuCille. She is named after her great grandma with the same spelling.

Lucille.I much prefer longer names with a shorter more informal nicknames. I actually love Lucille and would totally consider using it if we had another girl, but it would automatically be shorted to Lucy.

Probably Lucille nn Lucy. I've always liked it because of Lucy from Peanuts, whose full name is Lucille.

I'd just use Lucy, it's such a sweet and simple name

Just straight-up Lucy for me. I really see no draw in Lucille at all. It makes me want to wrinkle up my nose just saying it.

I'd name her Lucille and pronounce it lou-sill. Revenge on the capricious world that makes me name a daughter that. I understand that she has to have Lucy as a nickname, but I would get the hiccups every time I said it so it would sound just like I was calling her Lou. The name Lucy is fine on other people, I kind of see its appeal, but I would not want to call my daughter it. I just don't like it.If I get to name YOUR daughter either Lucille or Lucy, I'd name her Lucille nn Lucy because I think I'd personally rather not be "just" Lucy ... it's too much a nickname, to me. I think it'd be more pleasing to have a full name behind it.

Lucy, no question. I love Lucy. I don't really like Lucille at all. Lucy is cute without being cutesy. Lucille is... old and stuffy.

I would go with Lucille, NN Lucy, since that is my MIL's name, and it would be honoring.

Lucy. Lucille reminds me of pigs and snails for some reason.

Lucy by itself. The "seel" part of Lucille is a bit grating to me (which is also probably why I've always disliked Cecilia).Lucille also has stronger connotations for me of a bickering old lady. Lucy is actually babyish to me tbh, but it's better than my thoughts on Lucille.

No fan of either one, but I'd choose Lucille and not call her Lucy, just because I really hate the name Lucy. It's so goofy and flaky and sounds like somebody's yapping little lap dog that pees all over the rug everytime you look at her.
