Wendy - fast food or Peter Pan? (more)
Do you like Wendy?Which association is stronger to you? The dated/fast food association or the nice fairy tale/Peter Pan association? I go back and forth.Tell me anything that comes to mind when you think of Wendy.

I like it ok. My mind definitely goes to Peter Pan. I don't even think of Wendy's (fast food). I always thought it would be a cute nickname for Bronwen.

Probably the second. We don't have Wendy's fast food restaurants in Brazil. (I have heard the name Wendy used here, but many people here probably aren't aware that it's a fast food chain since the fast food chain doesn't exist here.) On the other hand, Peter Pan is pretty well-known here, since the book and the Disney film have both been translated into Portuguese.

I love Wendy as an easy, lighter form of Gwendolyn or other variants: I do not think of Peter Pan or of the Fast Food chain at all.

Peter Pan! It's my favorite Disney movie. (: Wendy is very sweet.

Peter Pan is my strongest association with Wendy. We don't have Wendy fast-food restaurants in Denmark, only heard about them by way of American media etc, but we have had Peter Pan for a lot of years here, so that's what I'm associating the name Wendy with more than anything else.I love the name by the way. :)

I dislike Wendy - horribly twee and very dated. We don't have the fast food chain here so only the Peter Pan connection comes to mind

I like the name Wendy a lot, and it's been on my list for quite a while now! I have always associated it with Peter Pan, and I hadn't even considered the franchise association until you mentioned it, and unlike many of the other responders, I have A LOT of exposure to the restaurant.

The fast food chain isn't as much of an issue for those of us in the UK. The Peter Pan association is positive. It is very dated, but quite nice, and there seem to be a decent number of poets named Wendy, including Wendy Cope. I had a bad experience with someone called Wenda, and I don't really like Wenda or Wanda, anyway. They sound like fictional witches. I guess I do kind of like Wendy, but I don't love it.

Eh, both associations are pretty much equal to me. I often think of the character from the fairy tale but I also think of the delicious restaurants. Great, now you have me craving for the food at Wendy's . *laughs*
Anyways, both associations aren't bad but the name itself sounds very dated. I picture a 'Wendy' on some woman who is well passed middle-age range. It just has that "older mother or grandmother or Great grandmother etc etc" feel to it. I cannot imagine the name used on some younger generation. Perhaps as a middle name but definitely not as a first.

Neither association is super strong for me. Maybe Peter Pan a little more. The woman who ran the daycare I went to as a child is named Wendy, and she's just a delightful person, so that's who I think of. I think it's a really cute name, but not in a childish way, I think it ages well.

If you'd asked, "What comes to mind when you hear the name Wendy?", then I'd know whether fast food or Peter Pan came to mind first. But having been given both options up front, and with both being in my head, I now can't say which association would come first and be stronger. What I really think of when I hear the name is The Beach Boys song "Wendy". When I hear the name, the song starts playing in my head. Wendy, Wendy what went wrong
Oh so wrong
We went together for so long, l-o-o-o-o-ng
I never thought a guy could cry
Til you made it with another guy
Oh Wendy, Wendy left me alone
I love The Beach Boys, but I've never cared for that particular song, so it whining through my head isn't really pleasant lol.I really don't like the name. Despite the Barrie character and the red-headed pig-tailed girl fast food logo, it actually makes me think of a witch.

I'm starting to like Wendy. My main associations right now are actually characters. Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, because she gets called nn Wendy a lot in fanfics, and also a really cool, chill, tomboyish character from Gravity Falls. The latter especially has helped add some personality and strength that I wasn't really getting before. Out of the two you mentioned I'm much more inclined to think Peter Pan, because we don't have Wendy's here. Wendy houses was something else I just thought of, but that's pretty neutral.

Hi Perrine !!!I like the name Wendy very much!!
My first association is with the world "wind"after with the charming girl of the fairy-tale. So in my mind this name is linked with elegance but also the lively lightness of the wind. This name is ranked 8/10 !! XD

Ohh nice :) I am so happy someone else likes Wendy. I get the feeling it is not so popular anymore.

Wendy is a great name - She Rocks!: I would just consider it as a nick0name for Gwendolyn; but if the child prefers it to a sufficient degree, I'd help her change it.
