The name Cyril
There is a theory that the name actually derives from the Persian name Cyrus (http://www.biblical-baby-names.com/meaning-of-cyril.html). This seems to make sense to me, more than the current theory that it derives from the Greek Kyrios. Is the first theory known to you, and if so, why is it dismissed?

I've never been greatly interested in Cyril as a name, so I haven't followed its history with any enthusiasm.I don't see why Kyrios is unlikely as an origin. The way to find evidence, rather than just going by one's own feelings, would be to check Persian sites for people named Cyril rather than Cyrus, and then do the same for as far back as the Greek records go. Until someone does that, we won't have any evidence to base our opinions on.By the way, if you take PeachyGirl86's advice and post this on the Facts board, you might be lucky enough to get a response from a Greek-speaking expert, or any of several people with lots of knowledge and experience. Worth a try.
