Ninel - usable or not? - please tell me your impression before looking it up
What do you think of Ninel (nee-NELL)? I always liked Nina and this is kind of cute. Could you first tell me your impression of the name and anything that comes to mind before you click on it to look it up? I'm wondering if the association is very obvious. I would never use it because of the association. Would Ninelle change things for you?

It sounds like a German nickname.I'm not sure if it's usable, though. I think it's one of those names to use with caution.

stop valuing aesthetics over association. "hey so i know this name is honoring lenin, BUT it sounds pretty..."
you can find other nice sounds. it doesn't even have a unique sound at all to begin with.the meaning would be recognized by most any immigrant from a soviet controlled area, and they would assume you chose it because of you look up to him. and yes, there are many people nowadays who do openly praise him.

I don't value aesthetics over association. I clearly stated that I would never use it. I find your response to be rather impolite.

Well, I knew the origins already, and I can't get past that, though I grant it sounds pretty.

Ninelle would be an improvement! But it also looks more fake than Ninel, so I'd have to avoid them both.Just for interest: I did know its origin, and it always reminds me of a particularly nasty South African politician, a white Nationalist right-winger with a short-man complex and limited intelligence. Harsh, but true! He was our Foreign Minister, I think, back in the 1950s and/or our representative at the United Nations. This meant that he had to live, with his family, in New York City where his very young son went to school and attracted attention from his teachers, who finally called the parents in. It seems that the boy had looked round the classroom, noticed that not all the pupils were white like him, deduced from his experience in South Africa that, since black people were only to be found doing menial, unskilled jobs, therefore these children must be in the classroom for that very reason. And he started giving them orders: fetch my book, pick up the pencil I've dropped, dust my table ... you get the picture. I've no idea how the school and the parents solved the problem! But the point of contact with your post is that the Minister's son was named Izan. On the Ninel principle. Pretty unpleasant, you'll agree. In mitigation, I've never heard of anyone else doing that.

Oh no, how horrible :( I always thought Lana might be difficult but Izan is truly awful, poor child :(

I don't like Ninel's spelling. I'd prefer Ninelle. I don't have an association with it by looking at it. The only think I thought of was the poster Ninor. After googling it, I'm guessing the person you're referring to is Ninel Conde? I think since Ninel is an actual name, it's fine. It's not like naming her Beyoncé, or something.

Nope! If you click on the link here, you'll find out. :)Ninel

I don't think it's usable, then. People would think the parents were communists.

At first, I thought you'd posted "Nine" as a name with a ! at the end of the name, and I was gonna say "Not in English!" lol but now I agree, it is cute. I think if a little girl with brown hair and a bubbly personality.ETA after looking it up: Oh...ew. Okay, nevermind! May as well name her Nine lol

Hi Perrine !!!Ninel?
It seems only a madep between Nina and a 'el' suffix.I much prefer it if I consider the Russian meaning lol.Ninelle has the same problem. It only seems a madeup one. They are similar to the Sindarin (JRR Tolkien) name Niniel meaning 'weeping maiden'(tearing girl). So it is not a joyful meaning. I dislike it. I prefer the simple Ninette.Another similar name I'm interested in is the Armenian Nariné (I read in is a book by Grangé).I also like the Russian diminutive of Nina ... Ninotchka.
