Unusual Autumn Name
Just saw someone on Facebook who gave her daughter the middle name Pumpkin. I have no idea if she was born in Autumn. WDYT?
Also, what are your favorite Autumn names?"Okay, what are your ideas? Taylor? Uh-huh. Fletcher? Cooper? Tanner? Where are you getting these? The Big Book Of Medieval Professions?"

Outside of the actual name of the season, I don't know whether I've considered any name "autumnal," so this is a difficult question for me to answer.Combing through my PNL, there's:Amber (the color is quite autumnal)
Circe ("witchy" name)
Henna (the color of the dye is quite autumnal)
Keturah (means "incense" - which I associate a bit with fall, but that might just be me)
Morgana ("witchy" name)
Morgause ("witchy" name)
Persephone (autumn is when Persephone leaves for Hades / the Underworld)
Phyllida (means "foliage")
Ruby (red)
Scarlett (same)
Topaz (birthstone of November)
&
Linus ("It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" - I know his character does way more things in different specials, but I associate him with the Great Pumpkin)
Perran (ultimately means "black" - which makes me think of Halloween)
Rowan (the tree is also called the "witch-tree")
Yorick (main association is the deceased fool in "Hamlet," when the title character takes his skull out of a grave and gives his "Alas, poor Yorick" monologue - the scene feels quite Halloween-ish)I had to really search for these. Going through my PNL, I realized I'm much more drawn to vernal (spring), or even estival (summer), names than autumnal ones.

I think Pumpkin sounds stupid on a human. At least it's a middle name. My favorite names with a fall feeling to me:
River
Luna
Autumn
Harvest -GP

Opal
Topaz
Scarlett / Scarlet
Sienna
Amber
Fiammetta ("fire" in Italian with dim. suffix)
Meg (as in nutmeg; only as a nickname)

Pumkin does not have a pretty sound at all... should not be a name. At least she kept it to the MN.

I like Aspen for a boy, I usually think of that as an autumn name as well.I think of Amber as an autumn name but it's just okay.I usually think of names like Lake, River, and Cedar as summer names.I'm uncertain what season Moss would be, most likely autumn but maybe spring. Olive is probably an autumn name as well.

One of our cats is named Pumpkin. She's fat and orange and full of piss and vinegar.Pumpkin is a ridiculous name for a person, especially to put on the birth certificate.
One of the loathsome Honey Boo-Boo's sisters is nicknamed Pumpkin. Her real name is Lauren, I think.I like Autumn as a name just fine.

Opal (October's birthstone) is pretty. Pumpkin... not so much.

I forgot about Opal, I also love that one.

Really bad. Luckily it's the middle name, but it's still bad, especially if she turns out not to be particularly slim. Imagine if she was actually born on Halloween...I like Autumn as a name, but can't think of Autumn related names I like. Would Maple count?

Depends on what you view as Autumn names but under my definition my favorites are:Girls: Hazel, Maple, and Citrina. I also like Rowan, and Autumn.Boys: RowanI know a boy named Topaz, I kind of like it for a boy or a girl but not enough to ever use it.After reading other peoples favorites I'm adding that I also like Opal for girls and I like Aspen for boys.
Pumpkin is a little too cute for my tastes, at least it is the child's mn.

Autumn itself is a good name, and I kind of like September as a name. Beyond that, it's hard to think of names specifically connected with the season.
