Ronja
Tonya made me think of Ronja which is a Swedish name I always really loved. What do you think of Ronja? Is anyone here from Sweden? How is it perceived in Sweden? And how would it be perceived in your home country? Do you think it would work where you live? Just wondering how international it is. It seems to be popular in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands etc.

According to SCB (Statistics Sweden) there are 4612 women named Ronja and median age for all Ronjas is 14, which obviously reflects back on the fact that it's a pretty new name (www.scb.se/en/finding-statistics/sverige-i-siffror/namesearch/Search/?nameSearchInput=Ronja). There is about half as many women named Ronja in Norway. I've personally only met a girl with Ronja as a middle name and and a dog named Ronja.

I'm Swedish, just as Caprice. And I'd say it's a common name for children and I've met a few. I quite like it, but not enough to actually use I think.

I'm Swedish and I would say that Ronja is seen as a totally normal name, although it's not extremely common. I've only met one Ronja so far. It seems to be more common for pets, actually, but it works just fine for a little girl, too.

Hi Perrine !!!Ronja is quite odd to me.
I know its history in Scandinavia but I would not use it.Everyone in Italy would think it is a Slavic name.
This is because many Balcanic name like Sonja, Dajana Darja, Ljuba are similar to Ronja.Scandinavian names have not a form in Italian and they are not used at all eccept of Oscar and a couple of other ones. After that I read that Ronja is a geographical nameRonja has not a future here in Italy.
And..I'm quite indifferent.
As I did not read the book I have no ties with it.

I live in Finland and yes, Ronja is quite a popular name here: I think its popularity peaked in the late 1990's and/or early 2000's. Ronja is associated here with the character from the much loved book by Astrid Lindgren. That's why most people (I myself included) picture the bearer of this name as a brave, independent and headstrong girl.
