Which old fashioned names do you think could make a comeback?
My name taste is a tad old fashioned, so this interests me. I really like names like Martha, Ethel (most likely wouldn’t use, but I think it’s cool), Lillian, Silvia, Miriam... Which “old fashioned” names do you think could work today, maybe even make a comeback?“Whatever you are, be a good one.” - Abraham Lincoln

Here in England, Martha is back, it's been top 100 for a few years now.Edith is back here too, just outside the top 100 right now.Other names that have come back from being 'older generation' in recent years are Florence (ranked #20 in 2016), Elsie (#31), and Ivy (#33).Other 'older generation' names ranked in the top 250 (but outside the top 100) here, which I could see continuing to climb are:Pearl
Constance
Polly
Hazel
Betsy
Olive
MarnieAs for boys, 'older generation' names that are back already are Arthur (#30), Albert (#64), Stanley (#65) and Frederick (#76).Then outside the top 100, but in the top 250 you've got:Sidney (pretty much strictly male here, with this spelling)
Barnaby
Chester
Leonard
Wilfred
Ralph
AlfredAlfred is currently #111, so I think that'll be the next one to join Arthur, Albert, Stanley and Frederick!I think there are names that are considered old-fashioned in the States, that are not considered such over here. Harriet is an example. My best friend is Harriet, and my family in the States have remarked how 'outdated' it is, but over here it's been popular for years. It never really went out of style from the Victorian era.

I think Mabel, Zelda, Eva, Edith, Sylvia, Louisa and Ophelia could make a comeback soon. Then maybe Dora, Doris, Lisa and Rosemary in a few years / decades. For a boy, Arthur, Alfred, Walter, Wilson and Edward / Edwin come to mind. Then there are names I'd like to see more often but don't think they'll become common:
Deborah
Millicent
Gertrude
Hilda
Albert
Stephen / Stephan

I don't feel like Miriam is especially dated. Lillian and Silvia/Sylvia are definitely back in. Idk if Martha is very dated, it feels like the same level as Mary and Jane to me (used less but not necessarily dated).Florence, Evelyn, Alice, Hazel, June, Beatrice, Nancy, Ada, Olive, Nora, Rosemary, Arthur, Albert, Hugo are becoming popular again.I could see Mabel, Margaret, Edith, Agnes, Vera, Myrtle, Wilfred, Wilbur also coming back.
