I adore Laura, and Laurel sounds less common, but still has the same root meaning. Olivia sounds pretty, as well.

I agree - I also love the name Lauren.I've read posts mentioning that the name lacks spice or enthusiastic vigor; to me it is a perfect blend of the Grecian root / Latinized with the participle form "en" and anglicized & modernized into a perfect blend of it all. For a boy, it adds the Floral element, but shrouds it in a strengthened "tree form", and the participle form which perpetuates it - also softens it. Remember, when we read Ovid, the Laurel is Apollo's tree, due to his unrequited love for Daphne, who sought other divine intervention for help from so much external desire pushed against her will.

The depth of symbol Behind this Name is overwhelming. The scenario behind this myth is quite real & true - and occurs frequently & through more occasions than anyone might know. I love Lauren for either gender.
