Re: PLEASE HELP!!!! lachlan because I love it, or Liam because we both like it
Before you do anything else, take other people's reaction to the name's popularity off the table. It honestly is not important that they have met three other Liams. If it bothers you because you know a lot of Liams, fair enough, that's a reasonable objection; but other people don't care that much if they've met other Liams; they might think "How original" but they aren't going to say it out loud so you're none the wiser. My solution is to name him William Lachlan or William David, and call him Liam; Liam is originally an Irish nn for William, after all. He'll either keep on being Liam, or as he gets older he'll end up as Will or Billy or Lock (which really isn't that great a nn) or Dave, or W.D. or any number of nns depending on his personality and circumstances. Who knows? You may take one look at him and think "This is not a Liam at all, let's call him WIll."
And you'll be calling him a name you both like, and maybe you use your favorite for his middle name, but you both will have compromised.I'd also recommend remembering that naming kids isn't a competition about how many relatives you name after or whose side of the family gets named after more or even who gets to make more decisions. The bottom line is you both will have to give up a little ground, and the final name should be one you BOTH like, even if BOTH of you don't LOVE it. I'm not recommending the extra middle name for that reason: it just ups the competitive streak that's going on, and which is the main source of your trouble right now.We don't need to set the sky on fire. A little glow will do just fine.
