There is a reporter on CBS news named Major Garrett. It sounds so dumb when other reporters or anchors address him as Major, because it's the same way you'd address an army major and of course he isn't. So it feels pretentious.
I know of a woman whose first name is Lady. Addressing her by her first name, as she asked for me to do, felt downright rude, like a NYC cabbie: Where to, lady?
I think giving titles as first names is silly.
Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, when you criticize him, you're a mile away and you have his shoes!
