You reminded me of a line in Wikipedia's article on Bohemund I of Antioch (c. 1058-1111). Specifically:

[Bohemund] was christened "Mark" but came to be known as Bohemund, after a legendary giant of that name.

Thats where I gleaned that information, although I think I might have got it from another source the line looks about right.
