I'm not sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if SELVIN was a variant of SELWYN. According to Hanks & Hodges this ca be either from an (unrecorded) English name composed of the elements "sele" (with a long E, meaning prosperity) or else "sele" (hall) + "wine" (friend). Or it goes back to the Latin SILVANUS (from "silva", wood, cf. SILAS). Then it would be a Norman name, derived from Seleuin, an Old French form of Silvanus.Andy ;—)
