Whats the meaning of the name Allison

I would *guess*, that there is something missing in the beginning. Something like Hylastenia, Milastenia etc. (these are just made up from scratch!)
I can't find any words, Latin or Greek, beginning with LAST-
But maybe there is a completely different solution to the problem …

You never know nowdays.
It sounds Latin or European at least.
Did you look for it on http://www.google.com?
It could be a plant name as well.
